Wichita State is CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week

 

Wichita State put together a 4-1 week, including a three-game sweep at Missouri State in a battle for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week.

 

The Shockers bounced back from a 1-0 loss in 11 innings at Kansas on Tuesday to thump Kansas Wesleyan 12-1 on Wednesday. WSU won three tight games at Missouri State, pulling out a 3-2 win on Saturday before sweeping Sunday’s doubleheader, 11-9 and 3-0.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Columbia beat Dartmouth twice on Saturday to capture the Ivy League Championship Series. The Lions nipped the Big Green 6-5 in the opener before taking a 12-5 victory in the nightcap.

 

Southeast: FGCU enjoyed a 5-0 week, starting with a pair of wins at FIU on Wednesday by the scores of 8-6 and 10-4. The Eagles swept a three-game set from Jacksonville to move within a game of first in the Atlantic Sun, downing the Dolphins 11-1 on Friday, 4-2 on Saturday and 10-2 on Sunday.

 

Central: Valparaiso remained hot, going 5-0 to extend its win streak to nine. The Crusaders posted an 11-4 win over Goshen on Monday and 5-3 against Western Michigan before sweeping a three-game set from first-place Milwaukee to pull within a game of first in the Horizon League. Valpo won 5-3 on Friday, 10-7 on Saturday and 7-6 on Sunday.


West: Stanford had a 3-1 week, starting with a 9-1 win over Saint Mary’s on Tuesday. The Cardinal took two of three from No. 12 Arizona State in Pac-12 play, winning 5-3 on Friday and 9-8 in 11 innings on Saturday before dropping the finale 11-8 on Sunday.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Vanderbilt won twice at No. 13 South Carolina to extend its win streak to eight.

Kansas State went 3-1, winning at Creighton prior to taking two of three at Texas to move into a tie for first in the Big 12.

Arkansas had a 3-1 week, beating Missouri State before winning two of three at Kentucky.

Kansas enjoyed a 5-0 week, defeating Wichita State and Baker before sweeping a three-game set from Baylor.

Cal State Northridge was 4-0, winning at San Diego before sweeping a three-game set at UC Davis to stay within a game of first in the Big West.

Bryant went 5-0, topping Northeastern before sweeping a four-game set from Central Connecticut State.

Charlotte swept a three-game series from Butler to move into a tie for first in the Atlantic 10.

Troy took three from FIU to sit within a game of first in the Sun Belt.

Oral Roberts swept a three-game Southland series at first-place Lamar

East Carolina went 3-1, winning at Gardner-Webb before capturing two of three from first-place Southern Miss in Conference USA play.
