Arkansas named CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week

 

Arkansas swept a three-game SEC series at No. 5 South Carolina. The Razorbacks have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week.

 

Arkansas started the series by pounding the Gamecocks 15-3 on Friday evening. The Razorbacks pulled out a 4-2 win on Saturday before going extra innings on Sunday in a 5-3 victory in 11 innings.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Cornell went 5-0 on the road to extend its win streak to seven. The Big Red won twice at Davidson, winning 10-9 on Tuesday and 3-2 on Wednesday. Cornell won three over the weekend at Villanova: 3-2 on Friday, 4-0 on Saturday and 3-1 on Sunday.

 

Southeast: Middle Tennessee put together a 4-1 week, rebounding from a 3-1 loss at Belmont on Tuesday to take a 4-1 victory over second-ranked Vanderbilt on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders swept a three-game Sun Belt set from Louisiana-Lafayette, winning 12-5 on Friday, 7-5 on Saturday and 9-3 on Sunday.

 

Central: Houston enjoyed a 5-0 week at home to stretch its win streak to 10. The Cougars topped Texas 4-3 on Tuesday before beating Harvard 8-1 on Wednesday. Houston started Conference USA play with a three-game sweep of East Carolina, winning 7-2 on Friday, 4-3 on Saturday and 5-4 in 10 innings on Sunday.


West: Utah went 3-1 for the week, starting with a 3-2 victory over Utah Valley in 11 innings on Tuesday. The Utes then took two of three from No. 19 Stanford in Pac-12 play. Utah fell 6-4 on Friday before winning 3-2 on Saturday in 10 innings. The Utes got the series win with a 7-5 decision on Sunday.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Cal State Fullerton had a 5-0 week to extend its win streak to 10. The Titans took two from Nebraska before sweeping a three-game non-conference series at Long Beach State.

Oklahoma also went 5-0 as its win streak grew to 10. The Sooners beat Oral Roberts twice before winning three from TCU in Big 12 action.

Oregon swept a three-game Pac-12 set from defending national champion Arizona.

Virginia had a 5-0 week at home, taking two from Yale before sweeping a three-game ACC set from NC State.

Pittsburgh hit the road and swept a three-game Big East series at St. John’s.

Gonzaga put together a 3-1 week, winning at Washington State before taking two of three from San Diego in West Coast Conference contests.

Texas A&M went 3-1, beating Dallas Baptist before taking two of three SEC games at sixth-ranked Ole Miss.

UNC Wilmington had a 5-0 week at home, beating East Carolina and Charleston Southern before sweeping a three-game CAA set from Georgia State.

Tennessee Tech put together a 5-0 week to stretch its win streak to 11, winning at Alabama A&M and beating Berea before sweeping a three-game OVC set at UT Martin.

Indiana also had a 5-0 week to stretch its win streak to 11, taking two from Miami (Ohio) before kicking off Big Ten play with a three-game sweep of Penn State.
