Team of the Week

UNLV named CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week

 

UNLV put together a 4-0 week, including a three-game sweep at eighth-ranked Stanford. The Rebels have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week.

 

UNLV started the week by defeating Hawaii 14-1 at home on Monday in the finale of the Rebel Classic. The Rebels defeated the Cardinal 3-2 on Friday, 12-2 on Saturday and 5-1 on Sunday, extending their win streak to nine.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Louisville swept a three-game series at home from Alabama, with a pair of extra-inning victories. The Cardinals won 4-3 in 14 innings on Friday, 6-0 on Saturday and 8-7 in 10 innings on Sunday.

 

Southeast: Furman had a strong 4-1 week. It started with a pair of wins at Coastal Carolina, 4-1 on Tuesday and 11-6 on Wednesday. The Paladins took two of three from Appalachian State over the weekend in Southern Conference play, winning 3-1 on Friday and 6-1 on Saturday before falling 10-9 in 11 innings in Sunday’s finale.

 

Central: Central Arkansas enjoyed a 3-1 week on the road. The Bears started with a 10-1 victory at Grambling State on Tuesday. UCA headed to Starkville, Miss., for the weekend, falling to undefeated and fifth-ranked Mississippi State 4-2 on Friday before rebounding for a 7-5 win in 10 innings on Saturday and a 7-3 victory on Sunday.


West: Oregon State remained undefeated with a three-game sweep of Texas State. The Beavers posted wins of 16-4 on Friday, 6-3 on Saturday and 6-4 on Sunday to improve to 15-0.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Illinois headed south and swept a three-game series at Baylor.

Vanderbilt had a 3-1 week, defeating Eastern Illinois at home before taking two of three at No. 14 Oregon.

Indiana traveled to Gainesville and won two of three at Florida.

Clemson put together a 3-1 week, downing Wofford at home before winning two of three at ninth-ranked NC State to start ACC play.

Seton Hall had a 3-1 week on the West Coast, bouncing back from a loss at San Diego to sweep a three-game set at Pepperdine.

College of Charleston enjoyed a 4-1 week, defeating UNC Wilmington and winning at Charleston Southern before taking two of three at Elon in Southern Conference action.

Cal Poly went 4-1, winning twice against Holy Cross before capturing two of three at Kansas State.

BYU had an impressive 2-1 week, winning its home series against UC Irvine.

UNC Wilmington manufactured a 3-1 week, rebounding from a loss at College of Charleston to sweep a three-game set from previously undefeated VCU.

Austin Peay had a 5-0 week at home, with victories over Michigan State, Western Kentucky, Milwaukee, Creighton and UALR.
