Vanderbilt is CBI Louisville Slugger Team of Week

 

Vanderbilt went 4-0, including a three-game SEC sweep of No. 16 Ole Miss. The Commodores have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Team of the Week.

 

On Tuesday, Vanderbilt started the week with a 12-3 home win over Middle Tennessee. The Commodores had three close victories at Ole Miss, winning 3-1 on Friday, 2-1 on Saturday and 7-6 in 11 innings on Sunday. Vanderbilt now leads the SEC East by three games.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Saint Louis went 4-0 on the road, starting with a 14-5 win at SIUE on Tuesday. The Billikens swept a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Butler, winning 6-3 on Friday, 10-5 on Saturday and 7-5 on Sunday to sit in first place.

 

Southeast: Duke put together a 3-1 week at home, beginning with a 9-3 decision over Davidson on Tuesday. The Blue Devils took two of three ACC contests from Georgia Tech, with a pair of shutouts against the top hitting team in the nation. Duke won 2-0 on Friday, lost 2-1 on Saturday before winning 3-0 on Sunday.

 

Central: Michigan was 5-0, starting with a 2-0 win over Bowling Green on Tuesday and a 7-0 victory over Central Michigan on Wednesday. The Wolverines swept a three-game Big Ten series from Michigan State, winning 6-3 in East Lansing on Friday, 5-1 at home on Saturday and 6-2 on the road on Sunday.


West: Arizona State enjoyed a 4-1week, starting with a pair of wins at Wichita State, 4-3 on Tuesday and 4-2 on Wednesday. The Sun Devils returned home and won a Pac-12 series from No. 9 Oregon, winning 6-5 in 11 innings on Friday and 14-9 on Saturday before the Ducks took a 16-3 win on Sunday.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Longwood went 4-1, starting with a win at Tennessee for the program’s first victory over an SEC opponent. The Lancers beat George Mason before taking two of three at High Point in Big South action.

Albany swept a three-game series from defending conference champion Stony Brook to move into a tie for second in America East.

LSU had a 4-0 week at home, beating Alcorn State and sweeping a three-game SEC set from No. 8 Kentucky to extend its win streak to 12.

Appalachian State went 3-1, winning at Eastern Kentucky before winning two of three against first-place Georgia Southern in the Southern Conference.

Oregon State put together a 3-1 week, beating Portland before taking two of three at No. 10 UCLA in Pac-12 play.

USF went 4-0 at home, stopping Stetson before sweeping a three-game set from Pittsburgh to move into a tie for first in the Big East.

North Florida had a 3-1 week, beating Bethune-Cookman before taking two of three from Mercer to move into a tie for first in the Atlantic Sun.

Campbell enjoyed a 5-0 week, winning at North Carolina A&T and beating Old Dominion before sweeping a three-game Big South set at Presbyterian.

Sam Houston State went 4-0, winning at No. 19 Houston before sweeping a three-game series at McNeese State to move into a first-place tie in the Southland Conference.

Loyola Marymount had a 3-1 week, winning at Cal State Northridge before taking two of three from San Diego in WCC play.
