Sam Houston State named CBI Team of the Week

 

After going 4-0 this past week, including a Southland Conference sweep of first-place Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State is the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.

 

The Bearkats started the week with a 2-0 victory over Texas Southern on Tuesday. SHSU traveled to Southland leader Stephen F. Austin over the weekend. The Bearkats posted a 5-1 win on Friday before taking a 7-3 decision on Saturday. SHSU completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory on Sunday to climb to third in the Southland standings.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Old Dominion swept a three-game series at Delaware to move into first in the CAA.

 

Southeast: ETSU posted a win at Appalachian State before taking two of three at NC State.

 

Central: Michigan State rebounded from a loss to Western Michigan by sweeping Purdue in a battle for the top spot in the Big Ten.

 

West: No. 20 UCLA won at Pepperdine before sweeping a three-game Pac-10 series at Oregon. The Bruins outscored their opponents 24-2 in four contests.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Ole Miss won at Arkansas State before taking two of three from No. 2 South Carolina.

Monmouth swept a four-game NEC set from first-place Long Island to take over the top spot.

UNC Wilmington defeated Elon before sweeping a three-game CAA series from Georgia State.

Connecticut went 3-0 against USF to build a four-game lead in the Big East.

San Diego won two of three against first-place San Francisco in WCC action.

Wright State won at Cincinnati before winning two of three against first-place Valparaiso to take over the top spot in the Horizon.

Seton Hall defeated Saint Peter’s before sweeping Louisville in a Big East series.

Central Michigan took two of three from Toledo to take sole possession of first in the MAC West.

Coastal Carolina swept a three-game Big South set from Radford, posting three shutouts against the Highlanders to extend its win streak to eight.

Bethune-Cookman bounced back from a loss at Florida to sweep Delaware State to go 18-0 in the MEAC for the second straight season.
