Cal Poly named CBI Team of the Week

 

After going 3-1 against ranked teams, including a Big West series win over first-place Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly is the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.

 

The Mustangs, under head coach Larry Lee (right), began the week with a 5-4 victory over No. 14 Fresno State. Cal Poly then entertained the sixth-ranked Titans, earning a 7-2 win on Thursday and 4-2 triumph on Friday before Fullerton avoided the sweep with a 9-3 decision on Saturday. The Mustangs moved into a tie for second, one game behind the Titans.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Delaware won at Saint Joseph’s before winning two of three from James Madison to sit a half-game out of first in the CAA.

 

Southeast: High Point won at Elon before taking two of three from first-place Coastal Carolina in Big South action.

 

Central: No. 7 Texas A&M rebounded from a loss to tenth-ranked TCU to sweep a three-game set from No. 18 Oklahoma State to take sole possession of first in the Big 12.

 

West: No. 9 Arizona State swept a three-game Pac-10 series at No. 19 California.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Miami (Fla.) defeated MEAC-leading Bethune-Cookman before winning two of three at No. 13 North Carolina in ACC action.

Minnesota swept a three-game Big Ten series at Indiana to move within a game of first.

No. 3 Vanderbilt took three SEC contests from LSU.

Georgia Southern won two of three against former first-place Elon to take over the top spot in the Southern Conference.

Wright State beat Urbana before sweeping three Horizon League games at Milwaukee.

Manhattan won a doubleheader at Columbia before taking two from Canisius to extend its lead in the MAAC.

Stanford won at Santa Clara before taking two of three from Pac-10 foe No. 17 UCLA.

Kansas State went 4-1, losing at Nebraska before beating Missouri State and sweeping a three-game Big 12 set from Texas Tech.

Troy lost at UAB before beating Alabama A&M and sweeping a three-game Sun Belt series from Western Kentucky to stay in first.

South Dakota State took three of four from Southern Utah to stay in first in the Summit.
