Oregon State is unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

ULL up to second, Virginia falls to third, Cal Poly rises to fourth, FSU fifth

After a 3-1 week, including taking two of three from sixth-ranked Washington, Oregon State has risen to No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI used five rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Perfect Game and USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Beavers started the week with a win at Portland on Tuesday. OSU dropped the opener against the Huskies on Friday before before posting wins on Saturday and Sunday to reclaim sole possession of first place in the Pac-12. OSU was first in all five polls.

Louisiana-Lafayette went 3-0 again to climb one place No. 2. The Ragin' Cajuns won three at home against ULM in Sun Belt play. ULL was second in four polls and third in the other one.

Virginia went 2-2 and dropped two spots to third. The Cavaliers beat VCU on Tuesday before losing two of three at Wake Forest in ACC action. Virginia was second in one poll, third in three polls and fourth in the other.

Cal Poly was 4-0 on the road and improved one place to fourth. The Mustangs defeated Saint Mary's before sweeping a three-game Big West set at Cal State Northridge to move into first place. Cal Poly was fourth in two polls and fifth in the other three.

Florida State went 2-2 at home and moved down one place to fifth. The Seminoles lost to UCF on Tuesday before taking two of three from Duke in ACC play. FSU was fourth in two polls, fifth in one poll and sixth in the other two.

For the second straight week, there were no additions or drops among the Top 20 in the CBI Composite Poll.

The CBI Composite Poll contains six teams from the SEC. There are three from the ACC and Pac-12, two from the American and Big 12, and single entries from the Big Ten, Big West, Conference USA and Sun Belt.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Oregon is No. 15 in two polls, unranked in two others.
