Virginia is Unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Oregon State rises to second, ULL stays third, Cal Poly fourth, FSU fifth

 

After a 4-1 week, including winning an ACC series at No. 5 Florida State, Virginia remained No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

CBI used five rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Perfect Game and USA Today Coaches Poll.

 

The Cavaliers began the week with a 5-4 win in 10 innings at VCU on Tuesday and blanked Richmond 13-0 at home on Wednesday. Virginia won 5-3 in Tallahassee on Friday before falling 7-0 on Saturday. UVa won the series with a 4-3 victory on Sunday. The Cavaliers were first in all five polls.

 

Oregon State went 4-1 and rose two spots to second. The Beavers split a pair at Sacramento State before sweeping a three-game Pac-12 series from ninth-ranked Oregon. OSU is second in three polls and two in the other two.

 

Louisiana-Lafayette had a 3-1 week and stayed at No. 3. The Ragin' Cajuns defeated McNeese State before taking two of three from Texas State in Sun Belt play. ULL was second in two polls, third in two polls and sixth in the other

 

Cal Poly went 2-2 and fell two places to fourth. The Mustangs beat San Jose State before losing two of three at Long Beach State in Big West action. Cal Poly is third in one poll, fourth in two polls, fifth in one poll and ninth in the other.

 

Florida State went 3-2 and held onto fifth. The Seminoles beat Stetson twice before dropping two of three at home to Virginia. FSU was fourth in one poll, fifth in one poll and sixth in the other three.

 

No. 10 Miami and No. 13 Oklahoma State were the top gainers, both rising six spots. Oregon fell the furthest, dropping from No. 9 to No. 18.

 

Indiana returned to the poll at No. 15. Kentucky dropped out of the poll.

 

The CBI Composite Poll contains six teams from the SEC. There are three from the ACC and Pac-12, two from the American and Big 12, and single entries from the Big Ten, Big West, Conference USA and Sun Belt.
