Top Five stay same: No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Vandy, No. 4 Fullerton, No. 5 Virginia

After a 5-1 week, North Carolina remains No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll. But the Tar Heels are no longer the unanimous choice.

LSU had another 4-0 week to stay in second. The Tigers defeated Alcorn State on Tuesday before sweeping a three-game SEC series from No. 8 Kentucky at home to extend their win streak to 12. LSU is first in one poll, second in three polls and third in the other.

Vanderbilt also went 4-0 to hang onto third. The Commodores beat Middle Tennessee at home on Tuesday before winning three SEC contests at No. 16 Ole Miss to stretch their win streak to 10. Vanderbilt is second in one poll and third in the other four polls.

Cal State Fullerton had a 4-0 week to remain in fourth. The Titans won at No. 10 UCLA on Tuesday before sweeping a three-game Big West series at UC Davis. Cal State Fullerton is fourth in four polls and fifth in the other.

Virginia put together a 4-0 week to hold onto fifth. The Cavaliers won at Liberty on Tuesday and defeated VMI at home on Wednesday before winning the first two games of their ACC series at Wake Forest. Virginia is fourth in one poll and fifth in the other four.

South Carolina was the big riser, climbing five spots into a tie for ninth. Kentucky (No. 13) and UCLA (No. 15) both fell five places.

Arizona State (No. 18), NC State (No. 19) and Notre Dame (No. 20)  return to the poll. Ole Miss, Cal Poly and Houston dropped from the rankings.

The CBI Composite Poll contains five teams from the ACC and SEC. There are four from the Pac-12, two from the Big East, and single entries from the Big West, Big Ten, Big 12 and Conference USA.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Oregon is ninth in three polls, 16th in the other two.
