Arizona sits at No. 1 in final CBI Composite Poll

South Carolina finishes second, Arkansas is third, Florida State places No. 4

After winning its fourth national championship, Arizona is No. 1 in the final CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Wildcats went 10-0 during the postseason, capturing their first national title since 1986. Arizona went 2-0 against South Carolina in the CWS championship series to take the crown. The Wildcats were first in all four polls.

 

The Gamecocks came in second in the final CBI Poll. South Carolina reached the CWS championship series before falling to Arizona. The Gamecocks were second in all four polls.

 

Arkansas finished third in the Final CBI Poll. The Razorbacks won their first two College World Series contests before falling twice to South Carolina. Arkansas was third in three polls and sixth in the other.

 

Florida State came in fourth. The Seminoles lost their first game in Omaha before rebounding to defeat Stony Brook and UCLA. FSU fell to Arizona in the bracket finals. The Seminoles were fourth in all four polls.

 

Kent State, Stony Brook, Oklahoma, St. John's and TCU were unranked in the final regular season CBI Poll and appear in the final CBI Composite Poll.

 

The final poll contains five teams from the SEC. There are four from the Pac-12, three from the ACC and Big 12, and single entries from America East, Big East, Conference USA, Mid-American and Mountain West.

* The American Baseball Coaches Association has ruled Arizona State ineligible for votes this season because of the school's NCAA postseason ban.

 

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Florida is No. 3 in one poll, No. 7 in the other.
