Florida State holds No. 1 in tight CBI Composite Poll

Florida climbs to second, Kentucky falls to third, LSU up to fourth

After a 2-2 week, Florida State stays at No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

But things are tight at the top, as three teams are within one point of first.

The Seminoles lost to No. 4 Florida on Tuesday before taking two of three at Boston College in their ACC series. Florida State is first in one poll, second in two polls and fifth in the other.

Florida went 3-1 and rose two spots to No. 2. After the Gators won at Florida State, they took two of three SEC contests from Tennessee. Florida is first in two polls, fourth in one poll and fifth in the other.

Kentucky had a 2-2 week to drop one place to third. The Wildcats were shut out at home on Tuesday by Louisville before taking two of three at No. 9 Arkansas in SEC action. Kentucky is second in one poll and third in the other three.

LSU enjoyed a 5-0 week to climb one spot to No. 4. The Tigers topped Alcorn State and Southern Miss before sweeping a three-game SEC series from Alabama. LSU is first in one poll, fourth in two polls and fifth in the other.

Texas A&M went 2-2 to fall to fifth. The Aggies lost to UT Arlington on Tuesday before taking two of three from Kansas in Big 12 play. Texas A&M is second, fourth, fifth and ninth in the national polls.

Oregon was the big climber after going 4-1 with two wins over San Francisco before taking two of three at No. 6 Stanford. The Ducks rose seven places from No. 17 to No. 10.

Ole Miss fell out of the poll, while NC State returned at No. 20.

This week's poll includes five SEC teams and four from the ACC and Pac-12. There are two from the Big 12 and Conference USA and single entries from the Big Ten, Big West and West Coast Conference.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Baylor is No. 3 in one poll, No. 13 in another.
