Virginia is unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

South Carolina rises to second, Vanderbilt falls to third, Florida up to fourth

 

After winning its ACC series at home against Miami (Fla.), Virginia is No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Cavaliers took two of three from the Hurricanes. Virginia lost the opener on Friday before winning on Saturday and Sunday. The Cavaliers are first in all four polls.

 

South Carolina enjoyed a 4-1 week to move up one spot to No. 2. The Gamecocks defeated Presbyterian and Charleston Southern before taking two of three from nationally-ranked Arkansas. South Carolina is second in two polls and third in the other two.

 

Vanderbilt went 2-2 to fall one place to third. The Commodores won at Louisville on Tuesday before dropping two of three at home to Florida. Vanderbilt is third in two polls, fifth in one and seventh in the other.

 

Florida moved up two places to No. 4. The Gators beat UNF on Wednesday before winning two of three at Vanderbilt. Florida is fourth in two polls, fifth in one and sixth in the other.

 

Texas slipped one spot to fifth. The Longhorns swept a doubleheader from Texas Southern on Saturday. Texas is fourth in one poll, fifth in two polls and sixth in the other.

 

Three teams return to this week's poll. Connecticut is in at No. 18, UC Irvine checks in at No. 19 and Fresno State sits at No. 20.

 

There are six ACC teams in this week's poll. There are three teams from the Big 12 and the SEC, as well as two teams from the Big West and the Pac-10. There are single entries from the Big East, Conference USA, Mountain West and WAC.
