Florida retains top spot in CBI Composite Poll

Vanderbilt alone in second, Oklahoma drops to third, Florida State is fourth

 

After winning four of five games this past week, the Florida Gators remain No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Gators lost at home to Georgia Southern on Tuesday, but rebounded to win at USF on Wednesday and sweep a three-game home set against Rhode Island. Florida is first in three of the four national polls and second in the NCBWA poll.

 

Vanderbilt holds second by itself after sharing the spot a week ago with Oklahoma. The Commodores went 5-0 at home this past week, with wins over Wofford and Kennesaw State before a three-game sweep of UIC. Vanderbilt is first in the NCBWA poll, second in two polls and third in the other.

 

Oklahoma dropped to third after suffering its first loss of the season. The Sooners defeated UALR on Friday and Saturday, but fell 7-0 to the Trojans on Sunday. OU was second in one poll and third in the other three.

 

Florida State climbed one spot to No. 4. The Seminoles enjoyed a 5-0 home week, with two wins over Maine and a three-game ACC sweep of Boston College. FSU is fourth in three polls and sixth in the other.

 

South Carolina drops one place to fifth. The Gamecocks were 3-1 this past week, with a win over Clemson on Tuesday before taking two of three from Cal State Bakersfield. South Carolina is fourth in one poll, sixth in two and seventh in the other.

 

Four teams rose five spots this week. LSU to seventh, Texas A&M to No. 12, Arkansas to No. 13 and UC Irvine to No. 15.

 

Fresno State entered the poll this week at No. 20.

 

There are five teams from the SEC, including four of the top seven. There are four teams from both the ACC and Pac-10. There are three Big 12 teams, two from the Big West and single entries from the Mountain West and WAC.
