Arizona named CBI Team of the Week

 

Arizona went 3-0 with a three-game sweep of second-ranked Stanford. The Wildcats have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.

 

Arizona, under head coach Andy Lopez (left), pulled out an 8-7 win on Friday to start the series with the Cardinal. The Wildcats won 4-2 on Saturday and 6-2 on Sunday to complete the sweep. Arizona moved into a first-place tie with UCLA in the Pac-12 with a 7-2 conference mark.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Army went 4-1, starting with a 7-5 loss to Columbia on Wednesday. The Black Knights began Patriot League play with a four-game series at preseason favorite Navy. Army swept Saturday’s doubleheader by scores of 2-0 and 6-2 and then took two on Sunday, 9-5 and 7-2.

 

Southeast: LSU put together a 4-0 week to extend its win streak to five. The Tigers topped Louisiana-Lafayette 5-0 on Wednesday before sweeping a three-game SEC set from third-ranked Arkansas. LSU won 10-6 on Friday, 2-1 on Saturday and 3-2 in 11 innings on Sunday.

 

Central: Baylor went 4-0 to extend its win streak to 11. The Bears won 14-5 at Houston on Tuesday before sweeping a Big 12 series with Oklahoma State. Baylor won 7-4 on Friday, 3-2 on Saturday and 5-4 in 13 innings on Sunday. The Bears remain in first place in the Big 12 at 9-0.

 

West: San Diego won three out of four West Coast Conference contests. The Toreros topped Santa Clara 12-4 on Monday to complete a three-game sweep. USD won two of three at defending WCC champion San Francisco, winning 6-1 on Friday and 11-5 on Saturday before dropping a 1-0 decision on Sunday.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Ole Miss went 3-1 with a win over Jackson State before taking two of three from top-ranked Florida.

Canisius went 5-0, winning at St. Bonaventure and defeating Buffalo prior to a three-game sweep of Rider.

Florida Atlantic had a 3-1 week, rebounding from a loss to UCF before sweeping a three-game set from Louisiana-Lafayette.

Minnesota went 4-0, defeating South Dakota State before taking three from Michigan.

Elon had a 4-0 week, topping UNC Wilmington before sweeping a three-game series at Samford.

Belmont swept a three-game series at Jacksonville.

USF went 3-1, beating Florida A&M prior to taking two of three from Notre Dame.

Tennessee had a 5-0 week, taking two from Mississippi Valley State before sweeping Alabama.

Wright State went 4-0, winning at Ohio before sweeping a three-game set at Valparaiso.

Prairie View A&M went 4-1, sweeping a doubleheader at Huston-Tillotson before taking two of three at Grambling State.
