Kentucky named CBI Team of the Week

 

Kentucky went 5-0 with a three-game sweep of two-time defending national champion South Carolina. The Wildcats have been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.

 

Kentucky, under head coach Gary Henderson (right), started the week with a 9-1 victory over Wright State on Tuesday and a 2-1 win over Murray State on Wednesday. The Gamecocks came into Lexington ranked third in the nation and a 15-1 record. The Wildcats posted 4-3 wins on Friday and Saturday before completing the sweep with a 6-3 decision on Sunday to extend its win streak to 21.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Bryant went 5-0, starting the week with an impressive 6-2 win at Liberty on Tuesday. The Bulldogs started league play in the Northeast Conference with a four-game sweep at Mount St. Mary’s, winning 11-3 on Friday, 4-2 and 3-2 on Saturday and 13-6 on Sunday.

 

Southeast: Arkansas put together a 5-0 week starting with a pair of midweek wins over Gonzaga, 1-0 on Tuesday and 5-3 on Wednesday. The Razorbacks opened SEC play with a three-game sweep of Alabama, winning 4-3 in 12 innings on Friday before an 8-4 victory on Saturday and a 7-4 decision on Sunday.

 

Central: Texas constructed an impressive 4-0 week. The Longhorns defeated Texas State 6-1 on Tuesday before heading to No. 17 Oklahoma to kick off the Big 12 slate. Texas earned a 7-6 victory in 12 innings on Friday before winning 9-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday.

 

West: Oregon State started conference action in the Pac-12 with a three-game sweep at No. 20 California. After a Friday rainout, the Beavers won two on Saturday by the scores of 9-2 and 4-1. OSU completed the weekend with a 13-5 win on Sunday.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Davidson went 3-1 with a win over NC Central before taking two of three from SoCon leader Elon.

Indiana State enjoyed a 5-0 week, defeating SIU Edwardsville before winning the Irish Classic with victories over Kansas and Houston Baptist before two wins over Notre Dame to extend the win streak to 11.

Dallas Baptist went 4-0 with a win over Oklahoma before sweeping a three-game set at A-10 favorite Charlotte.

UCLA went 3-1 with a victory over USC in Dodger Stadium before starting Pac-12 play by taking two of three from Arizona State.

La Salle went 4-0 with a midweek win over Temple before last-inning victories over Buffalo, Saint Peter’s and NYIT in the Big 5 Baseball Bash.

TCU went 5-0 with wins over Texas Tech and at UTSA before a three-game Mountain West sweep at UNLV.

William and Mary put together a 5-0 week with two home wins over Quinnipiac before a three-game CAA sweep at James Madison.

Florida Atlantic went 4-0 with a victory over Fordham before a three-game Sun Belt sweep at FIU.

Southeastern Louisiana went 4-1 with a pair of home wins over Mississippi State before taking two of three Southland contests at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Auburn kicked off its SEC schedule by winning two of three at nationally-ranked Ole Miss.
