CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll

LSU is unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Texas A&M falls to second, UCLA stays in third, UL is fourth, TCU up to fifth

After going 3-0 this past week, LSU has returned to the top spot in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI uses five national rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll.

The top team has changed for the seventh consecutive week, going from Virginia to TCU, LSU, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M and back to LSU. The Tigers topped Lamar before taking two at Georgia in a rain-shortened SEC series. LSU is first in all five polls.

Texas A&M had a 2-2 week and dropped one place to second. The Aggies beat Abilene Christian before losing two of three at home to Arkansas in an SEC series. Texas A&M was second in three polls, third in one poll and fourth in the other.

UCLA went 3-1 and held steady at No. 3. The Bruins defeated Cal State Fullerton before winning two of three from California in Pac-12 play. UCLA was second in two polls and third in the other three.

Louisville was 3-1 and remained in fourth. The Cardinals lost at Ohio State before sweeping a three-game ACC set at Wake Forest. Louisville was third in one poll and fourth in the other four.

TCU enjoyed a 4-0 week and rose two spots to fifth. The Horned Frogs won at UT Arlington before sweeping a three-game series from Santa Clara. TCU was fifth in two polls, sixth in one poll and seventh in the other two.

Missouri State (No. 17) and Maryland (No. 19) entered to the poll this week, while UCF and Coastal Carolina dropped out. No. 8 USC and No. 10 Illinois rose three places, while Vanderbilt dropped six places to No. 11.

The CBI Composite Poll contains five teams from the SEC, including three of the top six. There are three from the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12, two from the Big 12 and Missouri Valley, and one from the Big West and Conference USA.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Missouri is No. 14 in two polls, No. 30 in another.
