Texas A&M is unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

LSU up to second, UCLA rises to third, UL is fourth, Vandy falls to fifth

After putting together a 3-1 week, Texas A&M has returned to the top spot in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI uses five national rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll.

The top team has changed for the sixth consecutive week, going from Virginia to TCU, LSU, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and back to Texas A&M. The Aggies defeated Rice before taking two of three from Mississippi State to win the SEC series. Texas A&M is first in all five polls.

LSU had a 4-1 week and rose one place to second. The Tigers downed New Orleans and Northwestern State before taking two of three at home from Auburn in an SEC series. LSU was second in four polls and third in the other.

UCLA went 2-1 and continued its steady climb to No. 3. The Bruins took two of three at nationally-ranked USC in a key Pac-12 series. UCLA was second in one poll and third in the other four.

Louisville was 3-1 and moved up two places to fourth. The Cardinals won at Virginia before winning two of three at Duke in ACC action. Louisville was fourth in three polls and fifth in the other two.

Vanderbilt struggled through a 1-3 week and fell four spots to fifth. The Commodores lost to Lipscomb before dropping two of three at home to Ole Miss. Vandy is fourth in one poll, fifth in two polls and seventh in the other two.

Florida Atlantic (No. 17), Iowa (No. 19) and Coastal Carolina (No. 20) entered to the poll this week, while Rice, Maryland and Virginia dropped out. No. 15 Missouri rose five places, while USC dropped four places to No. 11.

The CBI Composite Poll contains five teams from the SEC, including four of the top eight. There are three from the ACC and Pac-12, two from the Big Ten and Big 12, and one from the American, Big South, Big West, Conference USA and Missouri Valley.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Florida Atlantic is No. 15 in two polls, unranked in another.
