Texas A&M rises to No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Vandy up to No. 2, TCU climbs to third, LSU falls to fourth, Florida stays fifth

After putting together a 3-1 week, Texas A&M has climbed to the top spot in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI uses five national rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Aggies won at UTSA before taking two of three from Missouri to win that SEC series. Texas A&M was first in two polls and second in the other three.

Texas A&M is the fourth different team to be No. 1 in the past four weeks: Virginia on March 9, TCU on March 16, LSU on March 23 and Texas A&M on March 30.

Vanderbilt had a 3-1 week and rose one spot to second. The Commodores won at Middle Tennessee before taking two of three from Tennessee. Vandy was first in three polls and third in the other two.

TCU went 4-0 and climbed one place to third. The Horned Frogs beat Oklahoma before winning three at Wichita State. TCU was second in two polls, third in one poll, fourth in one poll and fifth in the other.

LSU had a 2-2 week and dropped three spots to fourth. The Tigers won at Tulane before dropping two of three at home to Kentucky. LSU is third in one poll, fourth in one poll and fifth in the other three.

Florida went 3-1 and remained in fifth. The Gators won at Stetson before taking two of three from Alabama. UF was third in one poll, fourth in one poll, fifth in one poll and sixth in the other two.

Oklahoma State (No. 15) and Dallas Baptist (No. 18) entered to the poll this week, while Texas and Maryland dropped out. No. 12 Virginia and No. 14 UC Santa Barbara both rose four places, while South Carolina fell six spots to No. 16.

The CBI Composite Poll contains five teams from the SEC, all in the top 11. There are four from the ACC, three from the Pac-12, two from the American and Big 12, and one from the Big Ten, Big West, Conference USA and Missouri Valley.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Dallas Baptist is No. 13 in one poll, No. 28 in another.
