Louisville Regional

#1 Louisville 13, #3 Michigan 4 (UM eliminated)

#1 Louisville wins Louisville Regional

 

Nick Solak and Corey Ray both drove in three as No. 3 national seed Louisville mauled Michigan to claim the Regional title. Solak went 2 for 3 with a homer and two runs, while Ray was 3 for 5. Sutton Whiting went 2 for 3 with three runs for the Cardinals (46-16). UL scored in six of the first seven innings, including three in the sixth and five in the seventh. Josh Rogers (7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 6 K) earned the victory. Carmen Benedetti homered and drove in three for the Wolverines (39-25).

 

In the first game, Jacob Cronenworth went 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI as Michigan bounced Bradley. The Wolverines built a 3-0 lead after four and held on for the one-run win. Evan Hill (6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K) earned the win in relief, while Bryan Pall (1 IP, H, R, K) recorded the save. Evan Gruener (2 for 3, 2 R) homered for the Braves (36-21).

 

Gainesville Regional

#1 Florida 2, #2 Florida Atlantic 1 (FAU eliminated)

#1 Florida wins Gainesville Regional

 

JJ Schwarz delivered an RBI single in the top of the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie as No. 4 national seed Florida nipped Florida Atlantic to win the Regional crown and extend its win streak to seven. The Owls (42-19) tallied their run in the bottom of the first before the Gators (47-16) tied it in the fourth. Josh Tobias went 3 for 4 with a double and a run for UF. Alex Faedo (5-1, 6 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 6 K) earned the win, with Taylor Lewis pitching a scoreless ninth to record his seventh save. Billy Endris went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run for FAU. 

 

Earlier, Roman Collins belted a grand slam in the sixth to erase a 4-2 deficit as Florida Atlantic eliminated USF. Collins finished with two hits and five RBI, while Brendon Sanger (2 for 3, 2 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI) also went deep for the Owls. David McKay (2 IP, H, 2 BB) earned the victory, while Bo Logan hurled three hitless innings with one walk and five strikeouts to register the save. Luke Borders doubled and drove in two for the Bulls (34-26-1).

 

Baton Rouge Regional

#2 UNCW 8, #3 Tulane 2 (Tulane eliminated)

#1 LSU vs. #2 UNCW ppd.

 

Casey Golden had a two-run single to highlight a six-run third as UNCW eliminated Tulane. The Seahawks (41-17) must defeat LSU twice to claim the Regional crown. Zach Canada went 3 for 4 with two RBI, while Zach Shields was 2 for 5 with a pair of runs for UNCW. Nick Monroe (8.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R,  BB, 6 K) tossed eight scoreless innings before the Green Wave (35-25) put up two in the bottom of the ninth on a pinch-hit single by Tim Yandel.

 

Champaign Regional

#1 Illinois 3, #2 Notre Dame 0

#3 Wright State 4, #2 Notre Dame 0 (ND eliminated)

#3 Wright State 8, #4 Ohio 3 (OU eliminated)

 

Drasen Johnson tossed a five-hit shutout as Illinois defeated Notre Dame to reach the Regional championship game. Johnson walked one and fanned six. Ryne Roper and Adam Walton both had an RBI and scored in a three-run fifth for the Illini (49-8-1). Cavan Biggio and Ryan Bull both had two hits for the Irish.

 

Jack Van Horn hurled eight scoreless innings as Wright State blanked Notre Dame. Van Horn allowed five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Mitch Roman went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI for the Raiders (42-16). Kyle Fiala had two hits for the Irish (37-23).

 

In the completion of Saturday's suspended game, Ryan Fucci and Mark Fowler had two-run homers in a five-run second as Wright State sent Ohio home. Fucci went 2 for 4 with three RBI, while Fowler was 3 for 5 and drove in three for the Raiders. Jesse Scholtens (8 IP, 8 H, 2 R, BB, 3 K) earned the victory. Jake Madsen went 2 for 4 with one RBI for the Bobcats (36-21).

 

College Station Regional

#1 Texas A&M 4, #3 California 3 (12)

Nick Banks singled in Mitchell Nau just as Logan Taylor was being tagged at third in the top of the 12th inning as Texas A&M and California played another instant classic, this time the Aggies prevailing and forcing a winner-take-all game Monday night. A day after playing a 14-inning gem, the Aggies (48-12) and Golden Bears (36-20) went toe-to-toe again. After Banks’ RBI single, Cal had a runner on second with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning. Chris Paul hit a chopper well off the bag at first, where Hunter Melton knocked the ball down, ultimately chasing it down and throwing to the plate and catching Aaron Knapp in a rundown. Third baseman Ronnie Gideon chased Knapp down just before he slid and touched the plate. Earlier, Gideon had tied the game at three in the top of the ninth with a pinch-hit double to score pinch-runner Nick Choruby. Mitchell Kranson went 2 for 4 with two RBI, including a sacrifice fly that put Cal up 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth.

 

In the first game. Andrew Vinson made his second career start very memorable, tossing 7.2 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, and Nick Banks went 3 for 3 with a double, homer and two RBI as Texas A&M eliminated Coastal Carolina. Logan Nottebrok had two hits, including a homer of his own, and two RBI, and Logan Taylor contributed two RBI for the Aggies (47-12). Anthony Marks went 2 for 4 for the Chanticleers (39-21).

 

Coral Gables Regional

Dallas Regional

#4 VCU 5, #2 Oregon State 1 CBI Extra - Sean Ryan

Sean Stutzman and Drew Smith combined to limit Oregon State to four hits, and Justin Wall had another homer and drove in two runs as Dallas Baptist eliminated Oregon State. The Patriots (45-14) advance to face No. 4 VCU and will need two wins over the Rams to advance to the Super Regionals. Stutzman (8-1) struck out seven and allowed three hits and one earned run before turning it over to Smith, who yielded one hit and struck out four for his fourth save. Kyle Nobach went 2 for 2 with a run for the Beavers (39-18-1), who were eliminated after losses to VCU and DBU.

 

Corey Taylor tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts, and Justin Wall went 3 for 3 with a homer and six RBI as Dallas Baptist eliminated Texas. The Patriots advance to meet the loser of Sunday’s winners’ bracket game between Oregon State and VCU as the Dallas Regional was pushed back a day because of weather. Wall hit a three-run homer as DBU scored four times in the third inning and added RBI on two singles and a sacrifice fly. Camden Duzenack went 3 for 4 with four runs, and Daniel Salters added three hits and an RBI for DBU, which totaled 16 hits off five Longhorns pitchers. Tres Barrera had the lone RBI for Texas (30-27), which was playing at Dallas Baptist for the first time in 54 all-time meetings.

 

Fort Worth Regional

#1 TCU 8, #2 NC State 2

Tyler Alexander tossed a three-hitter as TCU topped NC State to force a deciding game on Monday. Alexander gave up two runs (one earned), did not walk a batter and struck out six. Derek Odell (2 for 3) drove in three and Dane Steinhagen knocked in two, while Cody Jones went 3 for 5 with two runs for the Horned Frogs (46-12). Logan Ratledge homered and scored both runs for the Wolfpack (36-22).

 

Evan Skoug had a three-run homer, and Preston Guillory tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief as TCU eliminated Stony Brook to set up a Regional final against NC State. The Frogs would need two wins against the Wolfpack to win the Regional. Connor Wanhanen went 3 for 5 with a run and two RBI, and Nolan Brown contributed three hits, a run and an RBI for TCU, which finished with 13 hits. Toby Handley had two hits and two RBI for the Seawolves (35-16-1).

 

Fullerton Regional

#1 Cal State Fullerton 10, Pepperdine 1 (Pepp eliminated)

#1 Cal State Fullerton wins Fullerton Regional

 

Connor Seabold turned in six scoreless innings, and David Olmedo-Barrera went 2 for 3 with three RBI as Cal State Fullerton dispatched of Pepperdine to win their 21st Regional title. The Titans (37-22) advance to their 12th Super Regional and will travel to Louisville. Josh Vargas had two hits and two runs, and Chris Hudgins added a late two-run double for Fullerton. Hutton Moyer went 3 for 3 with a run for the Waves (32-29).

 

Earlier in the day, Hutton Moyer delivered a three-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Pepperdine past Arizona State, eliminating the Sun Devils. Moyer, who finished with five RBI, broke the 4-4 deadlock with a long double to center for the Waves (32-28). Jake Peevyhouse had two hits and two RBI, and RJ Ybarra added two hits and two runs for Arizona State (35-23).

 

Houston Regional

#3 UL Lafayette 2, #1 Houston 1

#2 Rice 3, #1 Houston 2 (20) (UH eliminated)

#2 Rice 3, #4 Houston Baptist 1 (HBU eliminated)

 

UL Lafayette scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to rally past Houston and advance to the Regional title contest. Dylan Butler drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second. Butler moved to third as Joe Robbins reached on an error. Kyle Clement laid down a successful squeeze bunt to plate Butler with the tying run. Stefan Tosclair reached on an infield single to load the bases and Tyler Girouard was grazed by a pitch to force in the winning run. Greg Milhorn (3 IP, 2 H, 2 K) earned the victory for the Ragin' Cajuns (41-21). Seth Romero (8 IP, H, UE, 3 BB, 8 K) hurled a no-hitter for 7.2 innings for the Cougars (43-19) before allowing a single to left by Evan Powell. Chris Iriart (3 for 4) homered for UH.

 

Leon Byrd had an RBI double in the top of the 20th as Rice survived against Houston. The Owls (37-21) must defeat UL Lafayette twice on Monday to win the Regional title. Charlie Warren had a two-run single in the fifth to plate the first two runs for Rice. Tristan Gray went 3 for 9 with a run for the Owls. Austin Orewiler (9.1 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K) earned the victory. Corey Julks homered for the Cougars (43-20).

 

Ford Stainback went 4 for 4 with a double and two runs as Rice eliminated HBU in the completion of Saturday's suspended contest. The Owls (36-21) scored two in the fourth and one in the sixth. Ryan Chandler had two hits, including a double, and two RBI for Rice. Ricardo Salinas (2.2 IP, 5 H, R, K) earned the win, while Matt Ditman (3.1 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K) recorded the save. Samm Wiggins and Greg Espinosa both had two hits for the Huskies (28-27).

 

Lake Elsinore Regional

#3 Virginia 14, #2 USC 10 (11) (USC eliminated)

Matt Thaiss had a two-run single to highlight a five-run 11th as Virginia rallied past USC to claim its sixth Regional title in the past seven years. The Cavaliers (37-22) trailed 9-5 before scoring one in the sixth and three in the eighth. Thaiss went 2 for 3 with four walks, three runs and three RBI, while Kenny Towns (1 for 5, 2 R) and Pavin Smith (2 for 5) also knocked in three for UVa. David Rosenberger tossed four hitless innings of relief to earn the victory. Jeremy Martinez (2 for 6, 2B, R) drove in four for the Trojans (39-21).

 

In the earlier game, USC scored two in the eighth and three in the ninth to eliminate San Diego State. Jeremy Martinez (2 for 6, 2B) drove in four, while Timmy Robinson (3 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and AJ Ramirez (2 for 5, 3 RBI) both homered for the Trojans. Seby Zavala went 4 for 5 with a double, two runs and three RBI for the Aztecs (41-23).

 

Los Angeles Regional

#1 UCLA 4, #3 Maryland 2

#1 UCLA 9, #4 CSU Bakersfield 1 (CSUB eliminated)

 

UCLA scored single runs in each of the first three innings in downing Maryland to force a deciding game on Monday. Ty Moore went 3 for 4 with a double and two runs, while Darrell Miller Jr. was 3 for 4 with a double and a run for the Bruins (45-15). David Berg allowed one hit and fanned three over two scoreless innings to record the save. LaMonte Wade (2 for 4) homered for the Terps (41-22).

 

In the first game, Ty Moore had a three-run homer to highlight a five-run seventh as UCLA sent home CSU Bakersfield. Luke Persico had two hits and two RBI, while Kevin Kramer homered and scored twice for the Bruins. Cody Poteet pitched 5.1 scoreless innings with three hits, four walks and three strikeouts in recording the victory. Nick Vehlewald had a pinch-hit homer in the ninth for the Roadrunners (37-24-1).

 

Nashville Regional

#2 Radford 5, #3 Indiana 3 (IU eliminated)

#1 Vanderbilt vs. #2 Radford ppd.

 

Shane Johnsonbaugh went 3 for 5 and delivered the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as Radford slipped past Indiana in an elimination game. Josh Reavis added a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the Highlanders (45-15), who were rained out against Vanderbilt Sunday night and will play the Commodores Monday. Kyle Palmer pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, and Ryan Meisinger tossed the final two innings for his 17th save for Radford. Reavis and Patrick Marshall each had two RBI for Radford. Casey Rodrigue had two RBI to lead Indiana (35-24).

 

Springfield Regional

#1 Missouri State 3, #2 Iowa 2 (Iowa eliinated)

#1 Missouri State wins Springfield Regional

 

Jordan Knutson was brilliant over seven-plus innings, and Bryan Young worked out of tight jams in the eighth and ninth inning as Missouri State squeezed past Iowa to win the Springfield Regional and advance to the Super Regional round for the second time in school history. The Bears (48-10) won for the 19th straight time and advance to meet Arkansas at a site to be determined Monday evening. Missouri State managed only three hits but scored twice in the eighth on a Dylan Becker single, and Joey Hawkins added a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead. The Hawkeyes (41-18) loaded the bases with three straight singles and scored twice as Nick Day had an RBI grounder, and Tyler Peyton walked with the bases loaded before Young escaped further damage. Nick Hibbing tossed 5.2 with one hit, one run and eight strikeouts and was named the Regional’s Most Outstanding Player – earlier in the day, Hibbing tossed three scoreless innings to beat Oregon, including getting out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the ninth inning.

 

In the earlier contest, Iowa worked out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the ninth and went ahead in the top of the 11th when Daniel Aaron Moriel delivered a two-out single to center to score Nick Roscetti as the Hawkeyes eliminated Oregon. Tyler Peyton led the 11th inning off with a walk and moved to second on a bunt before being retired at third on Roscetti’s infield grounder. After a balk, Moriel singled in the eventual game-winner. Nick Hibbing tossed three hitless innings with three strikeouts as Iowa (41-17) limited the Ducks (38-25) to three hits – he entered with the bases loaded in the ninth and got a strikeout and double play to escape the mess. Calvin Matthews started and allowed two hits and one unearned run in six innings for Iowa. Josh Graham allowed one run and struck out six in six innings, and Stephen Nogosek allowed only two hits and the final run in 4.2 innings for Oregon.

 

Stillwater Regional
