College Station Regional

Mitchell Kranson launched a game-winning homer with one out in the bottom of the 14th inning as California slipped past Texas A&M in the winners’ bracket. The Bears (36-19) and Aggies (46-12) battled in an epic tournament game in which neither team could scratch past the seventh inning despite combining for 26 hits on the night. Ryan Mason tossed eight brilliant innings for the Bears, allowing six hits and striking out three. Grayson Long scattered 10 hits and allowed one earned run in 6.2 innings for the Aggies, who then got a splendid performance out of Ryan Hendrix. In 6.2 innings of relief, Hendrix struck out 12 and allowed five hits, the fifth being Kranson’s homer. Dylan Nelson turned in four scoreless innings of relief, thanks in large part to left-fielder Brian Celsi, who robbed Nick Banks of a homer in the 11th inning. The Bears’ Erik Martinez got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 13th with a strikeout and ground out as Cal and A&M traded missed scoring opportunities. Kranson finished 3 for 7, and Devin Pearson went 4 for 7 with a run for the Bears. Logan Taylor went 4 for 6 with an RBI for the Aggies.

 

In the first game, Andrew Beckwith allowed one run over 8.1 innings as Coastal Carolina eliminated Texas Southern. Beckwith scattered seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Bobby Holmes retired the final two hitters to record the save. G.K. Young had two hits, while Michael Paez homered for the Chanticleers (39-20). Robert Garza had two hits and one RBI for the Tigers (31-19).

 

Los Angeles Regional

#3 Maryland 4, #1 UCLA 1 41-21 43-15

In the first game, Hayden Carter tossed a complete game, and Soloman Williams hit a two-run homer as Bakersfield ended Ole Miss’ season. Carter allowed seven hits and struck out two for the Roadrunners (37-23-1). He got a big lift from centerfielder Jordie Hein, who raced to the wall to rob Colby Bortles of a possible homer that resulted in a sacrifice fly instead. David Metzgar doubled to lead off the fourth before Williams hit his two-run shot to give Bakersfield a 2-0 lead. Errol Robinson went 3 for 4 with a run for the Rebels (30-28).

 

Robert Galligan tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win as Maryland downed UCLA to move to the championship game of the Regional. Galligan allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two. Kevin Mooney fanned two in a perfect ninth to record the save. The Terps (41-21) scored twice in both the second and third after the Bruins (43-15) put up one in the top of the first. Tim Lewis had a two-run triple in the second and LaMonte Wade (2 for 3) went deep in the third for Maryland. Christoph Bono went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk for UCLA.

 

Coral Gables Regional

Alex Lange tossed a six-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as LSU blanked UNCW to advance to the Regional title game. Lange walked just two and threw 119 pitches, 78 for strikes. Kade Scivicque had a leadoff double and scored on a base hit by Chris Chinea in the top of the seventh to snap the scoreless tie. Andrew Stevenson (3 for 4) singled and scored on a groundout by Jared Foster in the ninth to give the Tigers (50-10) an insurance run. Corey Dick had a leadoff single for the Seahawks (40-17) in the bottom of the ninth before Lange struck out the side to preserve the victory. Gavin Stupienski had two hits for UNCW.

 

In the earlier game, Tyler Wilson drove in four, and Jake Rogers had a three-run double to key a seven-run fourth as Tulane stayed alive by beating Lehigh in a game delayed by a more than three-hour rain delay. The Green Wave, which entered Regionals averaging 4.26 runs a game, matched its season high in runs and finished with 13 hits. Garrett Deschamp went 2 for 3 with three runs and an RBI, and Richard Carthon went 2 for 3 with three runs for Tulane (35-24). John Elson had two RBI for the Mountain Hawks (25-31).

 

Champaign Regional

Chance Shepard had a two-run homer with two away in the top of the ninth as NC State rallied past TCU to reach the Regional title game. After the first two batters struck out in the ninth, Ryne Willard drew a walk before Shepard's blast put the Wolfpack (36-21) up one. Travis Orwig (2.2 IP, H, 2 K) earned the victory, working around a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth. Garrett Crain (2 for 3, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Jeremie Fagnan both went deep for the Horned Frogs (44-12).

 

In the first game, Casey Baker went 2 for 4 with a homer and four RBI as Stony Brook scored nine runs in the first three innings en route to eliminating Sacred Heart. In a game that featured 32 hits, Jack Parenty had three hits and two runs and Toby Handley each had three hits and two runs for the Seawolves (35-15-1). Robert Chavarria added two hits and two RBI for Stony Brook, which had 17 hits. Cody Doyle went 4 for 5 with two RBI to lead the Pioneers (23-33-1).

 

Fullerton Regional

#1 Cal State Fullerton 3, #2 Arizona State 2

#4 Pepperdine 10, #3 Clemson 8 (CU eliminated)

 

Jerrod Bravo drew a bases-loaded walk with two away in the bottom of the 14th as Cal State Fullerton outlasted Arizona State to advance to the Regional title tilt. Tyler Pietzmeier (3 H, 2 BB, 6 K) tossed five scoreless innings in relief to pick up the victory after Thomas Eshelman (7 H, 2 R) fanned 14 in nine innings for the Titans (36-22). Colby Woodmansee went 3 for 5 with a double and Andrew Snow homered for the Sun Devils (35-22).

 

In the first game, Pepperdine scored one in the eighth and two in the ninth to eliminate Clemson. Anderson had an RBI single in the top of the eighth as the Waves (31-28) knotted the score at 8-8. Gelalich had a leadoff walk and scored the go-ahead run in the ninth. Pepperdine built a 7-0 lead before the Tigers (32-29) scored two in the sixth and six in the seventh to take a one-run advantage. Chris Fornaci went 4 for 6 with a double, a homer, two runs and two RBI for the Waves. Tyler Krieger was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBI for Clemson.

 

Gainesville Regional

#1 Florida 8, #3 USF 2

#2 Florida Atlantic 8, #4 Florida A&M 1 (FAMU eliminated)

 

Harrison Bader and Buddy Reed both went 2 for 5 with a homer and two RBI as Florida downed USF to advance to the Regional championship game. A.J. Puk allowed four hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts for the Gators (46-16). Kevin Merrell and Austin Lueck both had two hits for the Bulls (34-25-1).

 

In the earlier game, Esteban Puerta had a three-run homer to cap a five-run ninth as Florida Atlantic send home Florida A&M. Puerta finished with two hits and four RBI, while Ricky Santiago added two hits and two RBI for the Owls (41-18). Kyle Miller (5.2 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 3 K) picked up the win. Marlon Gibbs went 2 for 3 with a walk for the Rattlers (23-25).

 

Houston Regional

Lake Elsinore Regional

#3 Virginia 3, #4 San Diego State 1

Ernie Clement had an RBI single in bottom of the eighth to snap a 1-1 tie and propel Virginia past San Diego State and into in the Regional championship game. Adam Haseley tripled and scored later in the frame for the Cavaliers (36-22). Joe McCarthy homered and scored twice for UVa. Josh Sborz pitched the final 1.2 innings with two strikeouts to earn the win in relief of Brandon Waddell (7.1 IP, 4 H, UE, 2 BB, 5 K). Alan Trejo went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Aztecs (41-22).

 

In the first game, AJ Ramirez had a three-run double to highlight a seven-run ninth as USC made UC Santa Barbara the first No. 1 seed to be eliminated. Garrett Stubbs had three hits and two RBI for the Trojans (38-20). Kyle Twomey (7.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K) earned the victory, while Tyler Gilbert fanned two of the final four hitters to earn the save. Woody Woodward went 3 for 4 with a double and a run for the Gauchos (40-17-1).

 

Louisville Regional

#1 Louisville 4, #3 Michigan 3

#2 Bradley 9, #4 Morehead State 4 (MSU eliminated)

 

Danny Rosenbaum hit a two-run homer to get Louisville on the board in the seventh and started a ninth-inning rally in which Devin Hairston plated the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly as Louisville squeaked past Michigan in the winners’ bracket. Brendan McKay allowed two runs (one earned) in 7.2 innings with four hits and five strikeouts, and Zack Burdi (6-0) tossed the final 1.1 innings with one hit and three strikeouts for the Cardinals (45-16). Brett Adcock was brilliant for the Wolverines (38-24), allowing three hits and the two-run homer in the seventh to Rosenbaum to go with six strikeouts. Trailing 3-1, pinch-hitter Kyle Jusick had a two-run single as Michigan tied the game at 3 in the eighth. But Rosenbaum singled to open the ninth, and pinch-runner Colin Lyman moved up on a grounder and stealing third for Hairston, who hit a fly down the right-field line to win the game.

 

In the earlier game, Drew Carlile had two hits and three RBI as Bradley eliminated Morehead State. The Braves (36-20) put up three in the first while adding two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Paul Solka (3 for 4) homered for BU. Nathan Stong (3.1 IP, 3 H, BB) picked up the win in relief. Ryan Kent went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two runs, while Robby Spencer was 2 for 2 with two RBI for the Eagles (38-22).

 

Nashville Regional

#1 Vanderbilt 6, #3 Indiana 4

#2 Radford 5, #4 Lipscomb 2 (LU eliminated)

 

Dansby Swanson belted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to break a 4-4 deadlock and lead Vanderbilt past Indiana into the Regional title contest. Swanson went 2 for 4 with two runs, while Will Toffey doubled and drove in a pair for the Commodores (44-19). Kyle Wright pitched a perfect ninth to save the game for Ben Bowden (2 IP, H, BB, 4 K). Craig Dedelow had two hits and three RBI, while Brad Hartong went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs for the Hoosiers (35-23).

 

In the first game, Zack Ridgely turned in five solid innings before turning it over to Daniel Bridgeman and Ryan Meisinger, who combined to allow one hit and strike out seven over the final four innings, as Radford eliminated Lipscomb. Shane Johnsonbaugh had two RBI, scoring Chris Coia (2 for 4, 2 R) each time. His sacrifice fly in the third inning cut the Bison’s 2-0 lead in half, and his double in the fifth tied the game at 2. The Highlanders (44-15) took the lead in the sixth when Danny Hrbek scored on a wild pickoff attempt to get Brad Keen at first. Keen then scored on Aaron Scoville’s sac fly. Bridgeman struck out five in three innings, and Mesinger closed for his 16th save. Josh Lee had a two-run homer in the second inning for Lipscomb (39-20), which set a school record for wins in a season.

 

Springfield Regional

#1 Missouri State 5, #2 Iowa 3

#3 Oregon 12, #4 Canisius 6 (CC eliminated)

#1 Missouri State 14, #4 Canisius 1

 

Blake Graham had two hits and two RBI as Missouri State edged Iowa to reach the Regional championship contest. The Bears (47-10) erased a 2-0 deficit with two in the fourth and took the lead with three in the top of the fifth. Justin Paulsen went 2 for 4 with two runs and one RBI for MSU. Matt Hall (8 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 11 K) earned the victory, while Bryan Young (1 IP, 2 H, R, 2 K) picked up the save. Nick Day went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and an RBI for the Hawkeyes (40-17).

 

Mark Karaviotis went 4 for 4 with three runs, and Scott Heineman went 2 for 4 with three runs and three RBI as Oregon doubled-up Canisius to stay alive. Austin Grebeck went 3 for 5 with three runs and two RBI, and Shaun Chase added a two-run homer as the Ducks (38-24) scored four times in the first inning and added runs in each of the next five innings. The Ducks finished with 14 hits, while Canisius (34-30) tallied 11. Jesse Puscheck went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, and Anthony Massicci added three hits and two RBI for the Golden Griffins.

 

In the day's first game, Jon Harris allowed three hits and a run in eight innings as Missouri State clobbered Canisius in a game postponed from Friday. Harris walked three and struck out eight. Tate Matheny (3 for 4, 2 2B, 2 R) and Justin Paulsen (3 for 5, 2 RBI) both homered for the Bears. Connor Panas went deep for the Golden Griffins.

 

Stillwater Regional

#2 Arkansas 7, #1 Oklahoma State 5

#4 St. John's 10, #3 Oral Roberts 4 (ORU eliminated)

 

Rick Nomura and Michael Bernal had RBI singles in a five-run eighth as Arkansas rallied past Oklahoma State to advance to the Regional title game. The Razorbacks (37-22) trailed 4-2 before the eighth-inning eruption. Tyler Spoon drove in a pair, while Joe Serrano went 3 for 4 with a run for Arkansas. James Teague (3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 2 K) took the win, while Zach Jackson (2 IP, UE, 3 BB, 5 K) picked up the save. Garrett McCain knocked in two while Tim Arakawa went deep for the Cowboys (38-19).

 

In the day's first game, Matt Harris had two hits and four RBI as St. John's eliminated Oral Roberts. Harris had two-run singles in both the third and fourth as the Red Storm (40-15) built a 9-0 lead. Robert Wayman went 4 for 5 with a double and two runs for St. John's. Ryan McCormick (5 IP, 3 H, 2 UE, 4 BB) picked up the win. Audie Afenir went 2 for 3 with two runs for the Golden Eagles (41-16).
