Kevin Coker, Southern Miss

Kevin Coker is a senior catcher for Southern Miss who will contribute a weekly journal to CollegeBaseballInsider.com in 2006. A native of Vicksburg, Miss., Coker started 52 games last year for the Golden Eagles, batting .318 with five homers and 38 RBI.  Off the field, Coker enjoys fishing and shooting pool.

 

 

Kevin Cooney, Florida Atlantic

Kevin Cooney is in his 19th season as head coach at FAU, where he has a record of 650-403-4. Overall, he has a record of 790-453-9 - a .631 winning percentage - in 22 years. FAU has reached the NCAA regionals seven times under Cooney, including each of the past four seasons. This is the third year Cooney has offered his thoughts on baseball - and other things - for CollegeBaseballInsider.com.

 

Greg Lopez, Notre Dame

Greg Lopez is a senior shortstop for Notre Dame who will contribute a journal to CollegeBaseballInsider.com. A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Lopez has been a mainstay on the Irish infield since he arrived in South Bend, starting 159 games and playing in 172 his first three years. Lopez, a two-time captain for Notre Dame, holds a 3.37 GPA as a double major in pre-professional studies and anthropology.

 

Brandon McArthur, Florida

Brandon McArthur is a sophomore second baseman from Seffner, Fla. He made a miraculous return last year, two years after suffering life-threatening injuries from a punch to the head and fall to the ground. He had three brain surgeries before becoming a key ingredient in the Gators' run to the College World Series title series in 2005. McArthur started 60 games at third base and batted .268.

 

Jon Mueller, Albany

Jon Mueller is entering his sixth season as head coach of the Great Danes. A year ago, Albany posted a program-best record of 37-14, including 14-7 in the America East Conference. Mueller, the 2004 America East Coach of the Year, will be checking in each week of the 2005 season.

 

 

 

Joe Persichina, Arizona State

Joe Persichina is a junior infielder for Arizona State. Persichina, a native of Torrance, Calif., started 42 games as a freshman and was an honorable-mention all-Pac-10 selection after hitting .320 and fielding at a .985 clip. Last year, he started 28 games on the infield and hit the go-ahead homer - only the third of his career - that lifted ASU past Cal State Fullerton and into the College World Series.
