Swanson helps Vandy complete sweep of Missouri

Miami blanks FSU, Oregon State edges USC, UCLA stops Stanford

 

No. 11 Vanderbilt 5, No. 18 Missouri 2

In Nashville, Tenn., Dansby Swanson had a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to snap a 2-2 tie and propel Vanderbilt to an SEC series sweep of Missouri. Zander Wiel (2 for 4, 2 R) homered for the Commodores (15-6, 33-12). Ben Bowden (5-1, 2 IP, H, BB, 4 K) picked up the win in relief of Walker Buehler (7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K). Josh Lester (2 for 4) went deep for the Tigers (12-9, 26-18).

 

No. 13 Miami 12, No. 12 Florida State 0

In Coral Gables, Fla., Enrique Sosa tossed six scoreless innings with five strikeouts as Miami avoided the ACC series sweep to Florida State. Sosa (6-3) allowed six hits and walked one. The Hurricanes (16-8, 31-13) used the long ball to jump start the offense. David Thompson had a three-run homer in the first, Garrett Kennedy had a leadoff dinger in the second, Willie Abreau added a three-run long ball in the third and Zack Collins (2 for 4, 2 R) launched a two-run shot in the fourth for a 10-0 lead. George Iskenderian went 4 for 4 with three runs and two RBI for Miami. DJ Stewart went 2 for 3 for the Seminoles (16-8, 33-13).

 

Oregon State 9, No. 8 USC 6

In Corvallis, Ore., Christian Donahue went 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBI as Oregon State recorded a Pac-12 series victory over USC. Trever Morrison (2 for 3) and Dane Lund (1 for 2, R) both drove in two for the Beavers (10-8, 27-13). Luke Heimlick (2-5, 4 IP, 2 H, 3 K) recorded the win in relief, while Mitch Hickey fanned one in a hitless ninth for his sixth save. Garrett Stubbs went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI for the Trojans (11-7, 30-12).

 

No. 3 UCLA 9, Stanford 3

In Stanford, Calif., Darrell Miller Jr. had three hits and three RBI, and Ty Moore went 4 for 5 with a run and an RBI as UCLA claimed its Pac-12 series with Stanford. Griffin Canning (7-1) allowed two runs over five innings, and David Berg earned his ninth save for the Bruins (16-5, 31-9). Jonny Locher went 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI for the Cardinal (5-13, 18-23).

 

No. 4 Louisville 5, Bethune-Cookman 4

In Louisville, Ky., Brendan McKay went 2 for 4 with two doubles, including a three-run two-bagger in the sixth inning that gave Louisville the lead for good, as the Cardinals completed a sweep of Bethune-Cookman. Corey Ray went 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs, and Sutton Whiting added three hits and a run for Louisville (34-10). Josh Rogers tossed six-plus innings and struck out eight in improving to 7-1, and Zack Burdi earned his fifth save. Demetrius Sims went 3 for 3 with two runs, and Austin Garcia added two RBI for the Wildcats (15-34).

 

No. 5 TCU 7, Texas 1

In Fort Worth, Evan Skoug went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs and two runs, and Nolan Brown contributed three RBI as TCU completed a Big-12 sweep of Texas. Alex Young (8-2) got three runs of support in the first inning and turned in six solid innings for the Horned Frogs (10-5, 34-8). Tres Barrera went 2 for 4 with a solo homer for the Longhorns (8-10, 22-22).

 

No. 6 Florida 10, Kentucky 1

In Gainesville, Fla., Dalton Guthrie had three hits and three RBI to lead a 16-hit attack as Florida salvaged the final game of its SEC series with Kentucky. Harrison Bader added three hits, two runs and two RBI, and Mike Rivera contributed two hits and two RBI for the Gators (13-8, 33-12). Alex Faedo (4-1) allowed one earned run in 5.1 innings to post the win. Storm Wilson went 2 for 3 with a run for the Wildcats (10-10, 25-17).

 

No. 7 Arizona State 16, Tennessee Tech 4

In Phoenix, Brian Serven went 3 for 4 with two runs and a career-best six RBI, and Arizona State used an 11-run fifth inning to claim its series with Tennessee Tech. RJ Ybarra added three hits and two RBI, and Colby Woodmansee chipped in with two hits, three runs and an RBI for the Sun Devils (28-12). Brett Lilek (3-2) tossed five scoreless innings for ASU. Anthony El Chibani had two hits, including a homer, and two RBI for the Golden Eagles (20-21).

 

No. 9 UC Santa Barbara 5, Hawaii 0

In Honolulu, Shane Bieber hurled a shutout as UC Santa Barbara won its Big West series at Hawaii. Bieber (6-3) allowed seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Clay Fisher had a two-run double and scored in a four-run fourth for the Gauchos (8-4, 31-10). Matt Lococo had two hits for the Rainbows (6-9, 15-26).

 

No. 10 Illinois 6, Penn State 3

In University Park, Pa., Ryan Nagle had a two-run in a four-run second as Illinois completed the Big Ten sweep of Penn State. Casey Fletcher went 2 for 2 with three walks and two runs for the Illini (13-1, 36-6-1). John Kraetz (4-0, 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER) picked up the win, while Nick Blackburn (1 IP, K) notched his second save. Greg Guers drove in a pair, while Nick Graham had two hits and two runs for the Nittany Lions (2-12, 13-26).

 

No 14 Oklahoma State 6, Texas Tech 3

In Lubbock, Texas, Gage Green homered and drove in four as Oklahoma State won its Big 12 series at Texas Tech. Ryan Sluder went 2 for 3 with a walk, a homer and three runs for the Cowboys (12-6, 29-14). Tyler Neslony (3 for 4, 3 RBI) went deep for the Red Raiders (10-8, 27-17).

 

No. 15 Florida Atlantic 8, Old Dominion 2

In Boca Raton, Fla., Brendon Sanger and Esteban Puerta both had three hits and two RBI to lead Florida Atlantic to a Conference USA series victory over Old Dominion. Stephen Kerr (2 for 4, 2 R) had a two-run homer to highlight a four-run eighth for the Owls (15-6, 33-10). Mike Perez (1 for 3) scored both runs for the Monarchs (7-14, 20-23).

 

No. 16 Dallas Baptist 7, Southern Illinois 4

In Carbondale, Ill., Sean Stutzman allowed one earned run and fanned six in six innings as Dallas Baptist swept its MVC series at Southern Illinois. Stutzman (5-0) allowed three hits and one walk. Brandon Koch (2.1 IP, H) struck out seven of the eight batters he faced for his 10th save. Justin Wall and David Martinelli both homered for the Patriots (13-5, 32-9). Braden Mosley had two hits and two RBI for the Salukis (5-10, 10-35).

 

No. 17 Missouri State 7, Illinois State 4

In Normal, Ill., Dylan Becker had a two-run homer in a three-run second and Jake Burger added a two-run single in a three-run ninth as Missouri State won its MVC set at Illinois State. Becker went 2 for 4 with two runs, while Burger drove in three for the Bears (9-3, 20-10). Paul DeJong (2 for 5) and Ryan Koziol (1 for 3, 2 RBI) both homered for the Redbirds (6-9, 21-20).

 

No. 19 Maryland 4, Purdue 3

In West Lafayette, Ind., Anthony Papio scored the game-winner on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the ninth to cap a three-run rally as Maryland completed the Big Ten sweep at Purdue and gave head coach John Szefc his 100th victory at the school. Jose Cuas drew a bases-loaded walk and Tim Lewis plated the tying run on a fielder's choice in the ninth for the Terrapins (11-4, 30-13). Kevin Mooney (2-0, 1.1 IP, H) picked up the win. Kyle Johnson drove in a pair for the Boilermakers (1-14, 13-31).

 

No. 20 Iowa 3-5, Nebraska 2-1 (Game 1 - 10 innings)

In Iowa City, Iowa, Jimmy Frankos delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th in the opener and Eric Toole had three hits and two RBI in the nightcap as Iowa swept a doubleheader and a Big Ten series against Nebraska. In Game 1, the Hawkeyes (13-2, 30-11) tied it in the eighth as Joel Booker (2 for 4) had a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Toole (3 for 4, R). Jake Mangler also had three hits and one RBI for Iowa. Ryan Boldt and Austin Christensen both had two hits for the Cornhuskers (6-9, 30-16). Tyler Peyton (5-3) won Game 2 for Iowa, going 8.1 innings with eight hits, one run and nine strikeouts. Nick Hibbing recorded the final two outs for his fourth save. Boldt had two more hits and a run for Nebraska.
