Ray's grand slam helps Louisville win at Virginia

Texas A&M takes two from Kentucky, Vanderbilt wins at Georgia

 

No. 7 Louisville 8, No. 12 Virginia 1

In Charlottesville, Va., Corey Ray belted a grand slam to cap a five-run seventh as Louisville took the ACC series opener at Virginia. Kyle Funkhouser (4-2, 7.2 IP, 5 H, R, 4 BB, 5 K) earned the victory for the Cardinals (12-1, 23-7). Adam Haseley doubled and scored for the Cavaliers (6-7, 19-10).

 

No. 1 Texas A&M 5-6, Kentucky 2-3
In Lexington, Ky., Mitchell Nau homered twice and Texas A&M ripped five homers in a doubleheader sweep of Kentucky. In the first game, Nau went 2 for 4 with a solo homer and two runs, and Blake Allemand homered and drove in two. JaVon Shelby went 3 for 4 with a run for the Wildcats. In Game 2, Nick Banks and J.B. Moss homered and drove in two, and Nau homered and scored three times for the Aggies (9-2, 30-2).

 

No. 2 Vanderbilt 11, Georgia 7
In Athens, Ga., Tyler Campbell drove in four runs, and Rhett Wiseman homered, scored twice and drove in two as Vanderbilt outslugged Georgia in the SEC. Zander Wiel added two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Bryan Reynolds contributed two runs and two RBI for the Commodores (9-2, 26-6). Jared Walsh went 4 for 5 with a run and an RBI, and Skyler Weber added three hits, two runs and an RBI for the Bulldogs (5-6, 18-14).

 

No. 3 TCU 4, Texas Tech 1

In Lubbock, Texas, Derek Odell had a two-run single in a three-run second as TCU won its Big 12 series at Texas Tech. Odell finished with three hits for the Horned Frogs (6-3, 23-6). Alex Young (6-1, 4 H, R, 2 BB, 7 K) earned the win, while Riley Ferrell retired the final four hitters with one strikeout to register his eighth save. Stephen Smith (2 for 3) homered in the first for the Red Raiders (4-5, 19-13).

 

No. 4 LSU 6, Alabama 4

In Hoover, Ala., Andrew Stevenson drew a one-out walk and scored on an error in the top of the 13th as LSU completed an SEC series sweep at Alabama. Jake Fraley (4 for 6) added an RBI single later in the frame for the Tigers (8-4, 27-5). Alex Bregman (3 for 6, 2 R, 2 RBI) was a homer shy of the cycle for LSU. Jesse Stallings (1-1, 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 K) earned the victory. Kyle Overstreet had two hits and two RBI for the Crimson Tide (4-8, 15-15).

 

Missouri 10, No. 5 Florida 1

In Columbia, Mo., Zach Lavy homered twice and drove in four as Missouri evened its SEC series with Florida. The Tigers (7-4, 21-11) scored three in the second and third, while adding four in the sixth. Tanner Houck (5-1) allowed four hits and one run in eight innings with no walks and six strikeouts to earn the victory. Josh Tobias had an RBI double in the eighth for the Gators (6-5, 24-8).

 

No. 6 UCLA 10, Oregon State 5

In Los Angeles, Brett Stephens had a bases-clearing double to highlight a five-run eighth as UCLA won its Pac-12 series against Oregon State. Kyle Nobach had a two-run single and Elliott Cary followed with a two-run homer in a five-run fourth as the Beavers (5-4, 22-9) took a 5-2 lead. The Bruins (10-2, 23-6) added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to level the score before taking the lead in the eighth. An RBI single by Trent Chatterton (2 for 4, 2 R, 3 RBI) in the eighth snapped the tie and preceded Stephens' three-run double. David Berg (3-0) retired the final six batters with one strikeout to earn the victory.

 

NC State 11, No. 8 Florida State 7

In Raleigh, N.C., Jake Fincher went 4 for 5 with a homer, three runs and two RBI as NC State avoided the ACC series sweep to Florida State. Logan Ratledge (2 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Andrew Knizner (4 for 5, 2 R) also went deep for the Wolfpack (7-7, 19-11). Joe O'Donnell (4-1, 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 K) earned the win in relief, while Will Gilbert retired the final five hitters in order, including two by strikeout, to record his first save. The Seminoles (11-4, 25-8) scored three in the eighth and trailed 11-7, but had the bases full with one away when Gilbert entered. He got a strikeout and a flyout to halt the rally. Danny De La Calle (2 for 5) homered for FSU.

 

No. 9 Arizona State 6, Utah 5 (10)

In Salt Lake City, Arizona State scored two in the ninth with two away and one in the 10th to win its Pac-12 series at Utah. Johnny Sewald (3 for 6) had an RBI single and David Graybill scored on a wild pitch as the Sun Devils (9-3, 21-8) tied it in the ninth. The Utes (4-8, 10-19) stranded the potential winning run on third in the bottom of the frame. Joey Bielek (3 for 6) delivered an RBI single in the top of the 10th and Utah was retired in order in its final at-bat. Ryan Burr (5-0, 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K) registered the win. Josh Rose had a triple and knocked in three for the Utes.

 

No. 10 UCF 2, Cincinnati 1

In Cincinnati, Zach Rodgers tossed a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts as UCF salvaged the finale of its American series at Cincinnati. Rodgers (5-0) walked three and allowed one earned run. Dalton Lehnen (1-5, 6 H, 2 R) also went the distance with 11 punchouts for the Bearcats (2-4, 8-21). James Vasquez homered in the second and added an RBI groundout in the fourth for the Knights (3-3, 23-10). Ryan Noda had a run-scoring double in the eighth for UC.

 

No. 11 USC 10, Arizona 9

In Tucson, Ariz., David Oppenheim had an RBI infield single with two away in the top of the ninth as USC completed the Pac-12 sweep of Arizona. AJ Ramirez and Bobby Stahel (3 for 5, 2 R) had two-run doubles and Jeremy Martinez (3 for 4) capped the seven-run fourth with a two-run single for the Trojans (7-2, 25-6). Bobby Dalbec (2 for 5, 2 R) had a three-run homer in the third for the Wildcats (7-5, 22-9).

 

No. 13 Miami 3, Duke 2

In Coral Gables, Fla., Zack Collins snapped a 2-2 tie with a homer in the sixth as Miami clinched an ACC series win against Duke. Garrett Kennedy (3 for 4) delivered a two-run single in the fifth for the Hurricanes (10-4, 23-9) to knot the score at 2-2. Andrew Suarez (3-0, 8 IP, 8 IP, 2 UE, BB, 12 K) earned the victory, while Bryan Garcia worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth for his seventh save. Mike Rosenfield had three hits for the Blue Devils (4-10, 19-12).

 

No. 14 UC Santa Barbara 9, Fresno State 3

In Santa Barbara, Calif., Luke Swenson had three hits, including a triple, and three RBI as UCSB completed a four-game sweep of Fresno State. The Gauchos (23-7) scored multiple runs in four of their eight at-bats. Shane Bieber (5-2, 6.2 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 K) earned the victory. Kenny Corey had two hits, including a double, and two RBI for the Bulldogs (16-17).

 

Middle Tennessee 7, No. 17 Rice 4

In Houston, Jared Allen went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer and two RBI as Middle Tennessee evened its Conference USA series at Rice. The Blue Raiders (9-2, 17-12) scored two in the third and fourth followed by three in the fifth. Connor Teykl and Tristan Gray both went deep for the Owls (10-4, 21-12).

 

No. 18 Dallas Baptist 5, Missouri State 4 (13)

In Springfield, Mo., Daniel Salters homered in the top of the 13th as Dallas Baptist salvaged the finale of its MVC series at Missouri State. Drew Turbin went 5 for 7 with two runs for the Patriots (6-3, 24-5). Chance Adams (4-0, 3 H, 7 K) pitched three scoreless innings to record the victory. Tate Matheny and Aaron Meyer both had two hits and two walks for the Bears (4-2, 20-8). MSU had 11 hits and drew 10 walks, but stranded 18.

 

Memphis 6, No. 19 Houston 2
In Memphis, Tenn., Connor Alexander tossed seven solid innings as Memphis captured its American Athletic Conference series with Houston. Alexander (4-0) allowed two runs and struck out seven, and Nolan Blackwood earned his 10th save for the Tigers (4-2, 19-8), who took advantage of four errors including three in a four-run fifth that broke the game open. Darien Tubbs had two RBI, and Zach Schritenthal added two hits, two runs and an RBI for Memphis. Kyle Survance led the Cougars (2-4, 21-11) with two RBI.

 

No. 20 Illinois 11, Northwestern 4
In Champaign, Ill., Reid Roper drove in three as Illinois won its 11th in 13 games by beating Northwestern in the Big Ten. Jason Goldstein, Ryne Roper and David Kerian each had two hits and two RBI for the Illini (4-1, 23-6-1), who built an 8-1 edge. Kyle Ruchim went 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Wildcats (2-3, 8-21).
