Jake Thomas (2 for 5) had an RBI single in the top of the ninth to snap a 3-3 tie as Binghamton nipped Stony Brook to force a winner-take-all rematch on Sunday for the championship. Both teams scored single runs in the seventh and eighth. John Howell went 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs for the Bearcats (24-25). Jextin Pugh (1-1, 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, K) earned the win, while Tsuyoshi Horibata (1 IP, H, BB) recorded his second save. Casey Baker (1 for 4) scored twice for the Seawolves (35-17).

 

Earlier in the day, Greg Ostner (3-1) tossed a six-hit shutout with one walk and four strikeouts as Binghamton eliminated Hartford. Jake Thomas and Shaun McGraw both drove in two in a five-run first for the Bearcats (23-25). David MacKinnon had two hits for the Hawks (31-23).

Frank D’Agostino went 3 for 5 with a double, two homers, three runs and four RBI as Temple downed Connecticut in the final game in program history. The win by the Owls (15-32) put Houston in the championship game. D’Agostino had a three-run homer in a six-run fourth. Ryan Kuehn (4-2, 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) earned the win. Bobby Melley drove in a pair for the Huskies (27-31).

 

Nick Solak went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI as Louisville took care of Rutgers. Cole Sturgeon (3 for 4, 2 R, RBI) was a homer short of the cycle, while Zach Lucas (2 for 4, 3 R) did go deep for the Cardinals (45-14). Anthony Kidston (7-0, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 7 K) earned the victory. Vinny Zarrillo (3 for 4, 2B) had a two-run single in the first for the Scarlet Knights (30-25).

 

Darien Tubbs (3 for 5) had an RBI double with two away in the bottom of the ninth as Memphis edged USF in the finale of pool play. The win by the Tigers (30-29) put Louisville in the championship game to face Houston. Craig Caufield (2-2, 2.2 IP, 3 H, BB, 4 K) earned the victory. Kyle Teaf had two hits and one RBI for the Bulls (27-31).

 

Atlantic 10 Tournament (Billiken Sports Center, St. Louis, Mo.)

George Mason wins A-10 championship

 

Anthony Montefusco had a sacrifice fly – a diving catch by VCU’s Bill Cullen – to score Blaise Fernandez with the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning as George Mason edged the Rams to win the A-10 championship. The Patriots (34-20) advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 after rolling through their first A-10 conference tourney without a loss. Tourney MOP Luke Willis went 4 for 5 with a run, and Fernandez scored twice for Mason. Tyler Zombro earned the save in relief of Jake Kalish (2-1), who allowed seven hits and two runs with seven strikeouts in nine innings. Cody Acker went 2 for 5 with a run for the Rams (37-20).

Bryan Sova (6-1, 5 K) tossed a five-hitter as Creighton edged Seton Hall to advance to Sunday’s title game. Mike Gerber had an RBI triple and scored in the third for the Bluejays (32-16-1). Chris Chiaradio tripled and scored in the sixth for the Pirates (39-14).

 

Mitch Elliott had an RBI single to cap a four-run seventh as Xavier rallied past Seton Hall to reach the championship game. Andre Jernigan went 1 for 2 with two runs and one RBI for the Musketeers (28-27). Sean Campbell (2-1, 4.2 IP, H, BB, 5 K) earned the win in relief. Zack Weigel had two hits and two RBI for the Pirates (39-15).

 

Colonial Tournament (Brooks Field, Wilmington, N.C.)

#2 College of Charleston 6 vs. #1 William & Mary 4 (W&M eliminated)

College of Charleston wins CAA championship

 

Tyler Thornton tossed eight shutout innings, and Nick Pappas went 4 for 4 with three runs as College of Charleston, playing in its first year in the CAA, captured the league title by beating William & Mary. Ben Boykin went 2 for 3 with three RBI as the Cougars (41-17) scored in each of their final five at-bats. Thornton (6-5) followed up fellow freshman Bailey Ober’s gem against W&M by throwing eight innings with four hits and eight strikeouts against the Tribe (34-22). Michael Katz went 2 for 4 with a run, and Devin White had two RBI for William & Mary.

Andres Ortiz had a game-winning RBI single with two away in the bottom of the ninth as Siena eliminated Monmouth. John Rooney went 4 for 4 with two runs and two RBI for the Saints (23-31). Danny Avella (2 for 4, 2 RBI) homered for the Hawks (24-25).

 

Mike Allen (3 for 4, R, 2 RBI) had an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to snap a 3-3 tie as Siena snuck past Fairfield. Allen had two doubles, while Vincent Citro went 2 for 3 with three runs for the Saints (24-31). Neil Fryer (3-4, 2.1 IP, 2 H, BB) picked up the win. Ryan Plourde went 3 for 4 with one run and one RBI for the Stags (32-24).

Robby Rinn ripped a three-run triple and scored in the top of the 12th as Bryant outlasted Sacred Heart to capture the conference crown. Rinn finished with four RBI, while Jordan Mountford was 3 for 4 with a run for the Bulldogs (42-14). Trevor Lacosse (4-3, 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K) earned the victory. Jayson Sullivan had a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth for the Pioneers (29-28).

Nick Morrissey and James Cooksey combined on a six-hit shutout as Sacred Heart stopped Central Connecticut. Morrisey allowed five hits and three walks in seven innings with seven strikeouts, while Cooksey (6-1) allowed one hit over the final two frames to pick up the win. Kenny Byram (2 for 4) had an RBI double and scored in the eighth for the Pioneers (29-27). Connor Fitzsimons had two hits for the Blue Devils (27-22).

Zack Collins (3 for 6, 2 R) homered to cap a two-run top of the 12th as Miami nipped Duke. Jacob Heyward went 3 for 4 with two runs for the Hurricanes (41-17). Cristian Perez had a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for the Blue Devils (33-25).

 

Skye Bolt went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and two RBI as North Carolina outscored Maryland. Wood Myers had an RBI single to snap a 7-7 tie and spark a six-run eighth for the Tar Heels (34-25). Kevin Martir (2 for 4, 2 RBI) homered for the Terrapins (36-20), who will play in the championship game against Georgia Tech.

 

Jose Brizuela (2 for 4) had an RBI single to break a 4-4 deadlock and cap a four-run seventh as Florida State rallied past Virginia. Gage Smith (5-2, 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 K) picked up the win in relief, while Jameis Winston (1.2 IP, 2 K) recorded his seventh save for the Seminoles (43-15). Brandon Downes (2 for 4) doubled and homered for the Cavaliers (44-13).

Gabe Friese (2-1, 3 H, BB, 3 K) allowed one unearned run over eighth innings as Kennesaw State edged Stetson to move to Sunday’s championship game. Justin McCalvin worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth to notch his 14th save. Brennan Morgan went 3 for 3 with one RBI, while Max Pentecost (2 for 4) homered and scored both runs for the Owls (36-21). Mike Fernland went 1 for 4 with a run for the Hatters (26-34).

 

Drew Adams (3 for 5) had a three-run double to cap a five-run second as Lipscomb downed FGCU to reach the title game. Nick Rome (2 for 4) also drove in three for the Bisons (33-27). Gage Morey (2 for 4) knocked in a pair for the Eagles (39-22). Ian Martinez-McGraw (9-3, 9 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 3 K) went the distance to record the victory. Zack Tillery had a grand slam for FGCU in the earlier meeting in the day to force the second contest.

Elijah Trail had a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Drew Butler as Campbell edged High Point in a seven-inning game to reach the Big South title game Sunday against Winthrop. Ryan Thompson (6-2) tossed 2.2 innings to pick up the win for the Camels (39-19), who will be playing in the title game for the second straight year. Josh Spano had the lone RBI for the Panthers (33-22). Earlier in the day, Heath Bowers tossed 6.1 innings and allowed one earned run and struck out eight as the Camels slipped past the Panthers. Seth LaRue drove in two as Campbell scored three runs in the fifth inning, and Thompson posted his 17th save. Spano went 2 for 4 with an RBI for High Point.

 

Winthrop reached Sunday’s title game by scoring four times in the top of the eighth inning to upend Liberty. Clay Altman had an RBI double in the big inning, which also included a Flames error that allowed a run and a bases-loaded hit batter. Andrew Yacyk went 2 for 3 with a homer, two runs and two RBI for Liberty (41-16), which is expected to snag an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.

 

SEC Tournament (Regions Park, Hoover, Ala.)

#3 LSU 11 vs. #7 Arkansas 1 (UA eliminated)

#9 Kentucky 5 vs. #1 Florida 6 (UK eliminated)

 

Kade Scivicque (3 for 4, 2B, 3 R) and Tyler Moore (2 for 4, R) both homered and drove in three as defending champion LSU rolled past Arkansas into the title game. The Tigers (43-14-1) extended a 3-0 lead with five in the fifth. Kyle Bouman (5-2, 6 IP, 2 H, R, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the victory. Clark Eagan had two of the four hits for the Razorbacks (38-23).

 

Josh Tobias (2 for 3, 2 R) had an RBI single in the top of the eighth to break a 5-5 deadlock and send Florida over Kentucky and into Sunday’s championship game. Harrison Bader had three hits and three RBI for the Gators (40-20). Eric Hanhold (4-3, 3.1 IP, 2 H, 4 K) earned the win. Max Kuhn had two doubles and two RBI for the Wildcats (35-23).

 

Southern Tournament (Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park, Charleston, S.C.)

#8 Furman 7 vs. #4 Georgia Southern 10 (12) (Furman eliminated)

Georgia Southern scored three times in the top of the 12th on RBI singles from Garren Palmer, Hunter Thomas and Chase Griffin in beating Furman for the second time on Saturday. The Eagles (38-21) lost their first game of the tournament and needed two wins over the Paladins (26-33) to reach the title game against Samford. In the first game, Palmer went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI as the Eagles scored six runs in the first inning and built a 10-2 lead. Jake Jones had a two-run homer for Furman.

 

Samford (35-24) reached the title game for the third time in four years by scoring eight times in the seventh inning to eliminate Wofford (32-28), which set a program record for wins. Drew McWhorter and Caleb Bryson had RBI singles in the big inning – two runs scored on walks, two on errors and another on a wild pitch.

 

Sun Belt Tournament (Stanky Field, Mobile, Ala.)

#1 Louisiana-Lafayette 4 vs. #4 Texas State 3 (TSU eliminated)

#2 UT Arlington 8 vs. #3 Arkansas State 7 (ASU eliminated)

 

Blake Trahan (2 for 2, 2 3B) had a two-run triple to cap a three-run second as Louisiana-Lafayette edged Texas State to earn a spot in the championship game. Caleb Adams (3 for 4, 2 R) also homered in the second for the Ragin’ Cajuns (52-7), who have won nine straight. Cody Boutte (8-0, 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, K) earned the win, while Matt Plitt (1.2 IP, H, K) notched his fourth save. Cody Perkins went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs for the Bobcats (30-28).

 

Matt Shortall had a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to erase a 7-6 deficit as UT Arlington nipped Arkansas State to reach the title contest. The Red Wolves (32-27) plated four in the top of the seventh for a 7-6 advantage. Eric Tate went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI, while Greg McCall (2 for 3, 2 R) homered for the Mavericks (33-25), who have won 10 straight. TJ Whidby (1-0) pitched a hitless eighth to record the win and Chad Nack worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save. Zach Maggio went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI for ASU.

Austin Darby had an RBI double to spark a five-run sixth as Nebraska defeated Michigan in front of 12,011 fans to advance to Sunday’s title tilt. Pat Kelly went 1 for 4 with a double and scored twice for the Huskers (40-18). Kyle Kubat (5-2, 8.2 IP, 3 H, R, 2 BB, 6 K) was one out from a complete game. Jacob Cronenworth had two of the three hits for the Wolverines (30-29-1).

 

Scott Donley (2 for 5, 2 2B, 3 RBI) had a two-run double in the top of the ninth to break a 4-4 deadlock as Indiana topped Michigan State to secure a berth in the championship game. Kyle Schwarber had two hits and two runs for the Hoosiers (41-13). Jake Kelzer (1-2, 1.2 IP, H, 2 K) earned the victory. Joel Fisher had two hits and two RBI, while Cam Gibson went 2 for 4 with two runs for the Spartans (31-26).

Kevin Cron (3 for 5, 2 RBI) had an RBI single to snap a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh and scored an insurance run later in the frame as TCU topped Baylor to reach the championship game. Trey Teakell (5-0, 3 IP, 3 H, K) earned the win in relief and Riley Ferrell fanned three of the four batters he faced to record his 13th save for the Horned Frogs (41-15). Grayson Porter had three hits, including a double, and one RBI for the Bears (26-31).

 

Oklahoma State defeated Texas twice with late-inning rallies to claim the second spot in the title game. In the first contest, Donnie Walton (2 for 4) had an RBI single to spark a three-run eighth for the Cowboys (45-15). Blake Battenfield (3-0, 3 IP, 2 H, BB, 4 K) earned the win, while Brendan McCurry worked a perfect ninth for the 18th save. Brooks Marlow went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk for the Longhorns (38-18). In the second game, Tanner Krietemeier had a two-run single in the top of the eighth to erase a 4-3 deficit and lead OSU to the victory. Conor Costello homered and drove in three for the Cowboys. Mark Payton went 2 for 3 with two walks and three RBI for UT. Mark Robinette (3-2, 3 IP, 2 H, BB, K) recorded the victory.

After a full day of action, Rice and UTSA emerged as the combatants for Sunday’s championship game. Justin Anderson (4-5, 6 H, 4 BB, 5 K) tossed eight scoreless innings as UTSA outlasted Southern Miss in their second meeting of the day. The Roadrunners (35-25) broke the scoreless contest with two in the seventh and added five in the eighth. John Welborn had two hits and two RBI. Michael Gilbert went 2 for 4 for the Golden Eagles (35-25). In their earlier meeting, Connor Barron broke a 7-7 tie with an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the ninth as Southern Miss edged UTSA. Mason Robbins went 2 for 5 with a double, two runs and two RBI for the Eagles. Bradley Roney (2-0, 3.2 IP, H, 4 K) earned the win. Welborn scored twice for the Roadrunners.

 

Chase McDowell had a three-run double in the top of the fifth to erase a 3-2 deficit and lift Rice past Old Dominion. Skyler Ewing went 2 for 3 with a homer, two walks and three runs for the Owls (40-18). Matt Ditman (5-5, 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K) recorded the win. Taylor Ostrich went 2 for 5 with one run and one RBI for the Monarchs (36-24). In their first encounter, P.J. Higgins (2 for 3, 2 R) singled and scored on an error in the bottom of the ninth for ODU.

 

Horizon Tournament (Kapco Park, Mequon, Wis.)

Youngstown State wins Horizon championship

 

Brent Gillepsie (2 for 4) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to force in the tie-breaking run and cap a two-run rally as Youngstown State edged Wright State to capture the Horizon crown. The Penguins (16-36) will make their second trip to the NCAA Tournament and the first since 2004. Kevin Yarabinec (2-2, 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, BB, 2 K) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the victory. David Saluga went 3 for 4 with a double and a run, while Phil Lipari added three hits, one run and one RBI for YSU. Joe Ford had three hits, including a triple, and three RBI for the Raiders (36-21).

 

In the first game, Michael Timm drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th as Wright State outlasted Milwaukee. Andrew Elliott (2-0) allowed one hit and struck out 13 over the final 6.2 innings. Ryan Solberg had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two runs for the Panthers (21-29).

James Sheltrown drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th as Akron outlasted Buffalo to reach the championship game for the first time since 1996. Matt Larocca (1-2, 3.1 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the victory for the Zips (28-28). Jimmy Topps had four hits, including a double, and one RBI for the Bulls (26-26).

 

Jon Wilson (3 for 6, 2 R) and Cody Koch (3 for 5) both drove in three as Kent State thumped Western Michigan to move onto the title game. The Golden Flashes (35-21) scored multiple runs in four of the final five frames. Eric Lauer (8-4, 7.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K) was the starter and winner. Kurt Hoekstra had two hits for the Broncos (24-31).

 

Missouri Valley Tournament (Bob Warn Field, Terre Haute, Ind.)

#3 Dallas Baptist 4 vs. #5 Illinois State 1

Dallas Baptist wins MVC championship

 

Drew Turbin delivered a three-run triple in the top of the eighth to snap a 1-1 tie and carry Dallas Baptist past Illinois State to claim the MVC title in its first season in the conference. Brock Stewart homered in the bottom of the second for the Panthers (33-22) before Austin Listi (2 for 4) went deep in the seventh for the Patriots (40-19) to even the score. ISU stranded 13, including eight over the final three innings. Brandon Koch (8-0) fanned two in the seventh and left the bases loaded in recording the win. Paul Voelker worked out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the bottom of the ninth to earn his first save.

 

OVC Tournament (The Ballpark at Jackson, Jackson, Tenn.)

Tyler Gamble singled and scored in the top of the seventh to snap a 7-7 deadlock as Jacksonville State outscored Tennessee Tech to force a winner-take-all championship contest on Sunday. The Gamecocks (35-25) built a 6-0 lead before the Golden Eagles (40-18) scored seven in the fifth. Michael Bishop went 3 for 5 with a double, a homer and four runs for JSU. Ryan Sebra (2-0, 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K) earned the win, while Travis Stout retired the final four hitters (two by strikeout) to record his 14th save. In the day’s first game, Paschal Petrongolo had two hits and two runs as JSU eliminated top-seeded Southeast Missouri. Derek Gibson and Andy Lennington drove in runs in the top of the first for the Redhawks (37-20) before the Gamecocks tied it in the fourth and took the lead in the sixth. Stout retired the final six batters in a row to save it for Bradley Raulston (1-0, 2 IP, H, K).

Brett Hoffman and Daniel Midyett (3 for 5, 3 RBI) had two-run singles in a four-run second as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Central Arkansas to claim the Southland crown. Jacob Seward and Jameson Fisher both had three hits and three runs for the Lions (37-23). Jason Greenleaf (1-0, 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 UE, K) picked up the win in relief, while Tate Scioneaux (5.1 IP, 4 H, BB, 8 K) recorded his first save. Carson Dowdle went 3 for 4 with a run for the Bears (32-22).

North Dakota State wins Summit championship

 

John Skrbec blasted a grand slam to key a six-run first inning as North Dakota State earned its first NCAA Division I Tournament berth by blanking Western Illinois to claim the Summit League title. Reed Pfannenstein (4-1) was named the tourney MVP after tossing 8.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts for the Bison (25-24). Michael Leach added two hits and three RBI for NDSU.

Greg Allen (3 for 5, 3 R) had a two-run single to key a four-run fourth as San Diego State overwhelmed UNLV, forcing another match-up on Sunday to determine the champion. Brett Seeburger (4-0, 8.1 IP, 7 H, R, 4 BB, 6 K) pitched the Aztecs (41-19) to victory. Erik VanMeetren went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run for the Rebels (35-22).

 

In the day’s earlier game, Seby Zavala (3 for 5, 3 RBI) had a run-scoring single with one away in the bottom of the 10th as SDSU eliminated Nevada. Michael Cederoth (6-2, 2.1 IP, 2 H, BB) earned the win in relief of Marcus Reyes (7.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 K). Bryce Barger had three hits and two RBI for the Wolf Pack (31-27).

Will Soto (3 for 5, 2 R) had a two-run single in a three-run first as Sacramento State forced a winner-take-all title game on Sunday against Utah Valley. Chris Lewis went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI for the Hornets (38-22). Chad Perry (3-0, 3 IP, H, UE, 2 BB, 2 K) earned the win in relief. Kade Andrus homered for the Wolverines (28-29).

 

In the day’s first game, Justin Dillon (4-1, 6 H, R, BB, 3 K) tossed seven strong innings as Sacramento State eliminated CSU Bakersfield. Alex Palsha tossed two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts to record his fourth save. Rhys Hoskins and Will Soto both homered for the Hornets. Soloman Williams went 2 for 4 with one RBI for the Roadrunners (26-33).

Jackson McClelland (8-3, R, BB, 2 K) tossed six strong innings as Pepperdine downed Loyola Marymount to claim the WCC crown. Brandon Caruso had an RBI single to snap a scoreless tie and spark a three-run sixth for the Waves (39-16). Bryan Langlois added a two-run double later in the sixth for Pepperdine. Tanner Donnels had two hits and an RBI for the Lions (32-24).
