Tucker homers as Florida wins at Kentucky

USD outscores BYU, Hawaii stops NMSU, SIUE downs Saint Louis

 

In Lexington, Ky., Preston Tucker (right) homered and drove in two as No. 6 Florida edged fifth-ranked Kentucky 5-3 Thursday to open their SEC series in front of 2,457 fans at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The Gators (13-9, 34-12) pulled to within a game of the first-place Wildcats (14-8, 36-10) in the SEC Eastern Division. Tucker (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) had a solo homer in the top of the first and added a run-scoring single to spark a three-run third as UF took a 4-0 advantage. Hudson Randall (5-1, 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 4 K) earned the win, while Steven Rodriguez (2.1, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K) notched his first save. Michael Williams (2 for 4) had a two-run homer in the seventh for UK.

 

No. 20 San Diego 14, BYU 7

In Provo, Utah, Kris Bryant homered and drove in four as San Diego doubled BYU to start their WCC series at Larry H. Miller Field. The first-place Toreros (11-5, 34-11) trailed 7-4 after four, but scored in each of the final five innings. Bryan Haar had a run-scoring double to cap a three-run seventh as USD took the lead for good. Bryant had two hits and four runs, Corey LeVier went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Lucas Hagberg and Louis Lechich both had two hits and drove in two for the Toreros. Max MacNabb (3-0, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) picked up the win in relief. Austin Hall went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Cougars (7-6, 18-19).

 

Hawaii 5, New Mexico State 2

In Honolulu, Collin Bennett had a two-run single to cap a three-run fifth as Hawaii defeated first-place New Mexico State in the opener of their WAC series at Les Murakami Stadium. Bennett went 2 for 3 with two runs, while Zack Swasey added three hits for the Rainbows (6-4, 26-18). Matt Sisto (8-3, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K) earned the win. Tanner Rust went 2 for 4 with a triple and one RBI, while Zac Fisher homered for the Aggies (7-3, 30-15).

 

SIU Edwardsville 7, Saint Louis 2

In Sauget, Ill., Mitch Matecki and Joel Greatting both homered as SIU Edwardsville downed Saint Louis at GCS Ballpark. Matecki (2 for 3, 3 R) had a two-run dinger in the top of the first to put the Cougars (23-22) on top for good. Greatting (3 for 5) added a two-run bomb in the seventh as SIUE took a 5-2 lead. Brooks McDowell (2-3, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K) tossed five scoreless innings to earn the win in relief. Mike Vigliarolo went deep for the Billikens (30-15).
