Milwaukee scores five in ninth to edge San Francisco

San Diego State nips Cal Poly, Arizona State handles Saint Louis

 

In San Diego, Jonathan Capasso had a three-run double to cap a five-run bottom of the ninth as Milwaukee nipped San Francisco 6-5 Thursday in the Aztec Invitational at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Jim Lundstrom had two runs and one RBI, while Paul Hoenecke (right) went 1 for 4 for the Panthers (3-5). Nik Balog went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Dons (5-4).

 

San Diego State 4, Cal Poly 3

In San Diego, Calif., Evan Potter’s base hit up the middle brought home the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth as San Diego State edged Cal Poly in the Aztec Invitational at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs (4-6) tied it with two in the eighth as Matt Munoz delivered a RBI single and Cody Smith drew a bases-loaded walk. Greg Allen went 2 for 4 with a run for SDSU. Mike Hachadorian (2-0, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K) picked up the win. Nick Torres doubled twice and scored a pair for the Mustangs (7-2).

 

Arizona State 9, Saint Louis 1

In Surprise, Ariz., Joey DeMichele drove in a career-high five as Arizona State stopped Saint Louis in the Coca-Cola Classic at Surprise Stadium. DeMichele had a RBI single in the first and added two-run base hits in the fifth and sixth for the Sun Devils (6-1). Brady Rodgers (3-0) went the distance for ASU with four hits, one unearned run, two walks and seven strikeouts. Trever Allen went 2 for 4 with a homer, three runs and two RBI for the Sun Devils. Alec Sole doubled for the Billikens (5-4).

 

Saint Mary’s 5, Oregon State 4

In Surprise, Ariz., Saint Mary’s scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to erase a 4-2 deficit in defeating Oregon State in the Coca-Cola Classic at Surprise Stadium. Patrick Wisdom homered for the Gaels (6-3) in the bottom of the seventh to snap a 4-4 tie. Ricky Boas went 2 for 4 with a double and one run for St. Mary’s. Patrick Keane (1-0, 2 IP, 1 H, 3 K) earned the win in relief, while Kyle Barraclough (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) pitched the ninth for his first save. Kevin Keyes had a two-run double and scored in a four-run fourth for the Beavers (5-4).

 

Boston College 3, FGCU 0

In Fort Myers, Fla., Anthony Melchionda and Spenser Payne both had three hits with one run and one RBI as Boston College blanked FGCU. Six hurlers combined on the four-hit shutout. Nick Poore (3 IP, 3 K) picked up the win in relief, while Matt Brazis allowed one hit with two strikeouts in the ninth for his second save. The visiting Eagles (5-2) scored single runs in the second, third and seventh. Blake Butera went 3 for 4 with two doubles for BC. Ryan Gebhart went 1 for 4 with one stole base for the home Eagles (5-4).

 

Winthrop 14, Northern Illinois 7

In Surprise, Ariz., Tyler Donovan went 2 for 5 with a double and four RBI as Winthrop doubled Northern Illinois in the Coca-Cola Classic. The Eagles (1-8) took the lead with four in the second and added three in the third, sixth and eighth. Justin Hopper homered and drove in three, while Leighton Daniels went 1 for 3 with three RBI for Winthrop. Matt Pierpont (1-2, 6.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 6 K) earned the victory. Brett Frantini went 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Huskies (0-8).

 

UNF 8, Georgia Southern 5

In Jacksonville, Fla., Ryan Roberson ripped a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as UNF edged Georgia Southern. The Eagles (5-4) scored one in the eighth and tied it with two in the top of the ninth. Roberson finished with two hits and five RBI. Alex Bacon went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI for the Ospreys (5-3). Tyler Moore (1-1, 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 K) earned the win for UNF. Casey Kicklighter went 4 for 5 with a homer, two runs and three RBI for Georgia Southern.

 

Hawaii 6, Wichita State 3

In Honolulu, Pi’ikea Kitamura went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI as Hawaii defeated Wichita State. Zack Swasey delivered a double, a triple and two RBI for the Rainbows (7-3). His two-run double in the fifth have UH a 4-0 advantage. Matt Sisto (3-0, 9 H, 3 R, 3 K) worked 7.2 innings in securing the win. Johnny Coy and Don Lambert both had two hits and a run for the Shockers (5-4).

 

The Citadel 4, Columbia 1

In Charleston, S.C., Austin Pritcher allowed two hits over six innings as The Citadel defeated Columbia at Riley Park. Pritcher (1-1) gave up one run with four walks and four strikeouts. Zach Sherrill walked two and struck out a pair in the ninth for his second save. Justin Mackert went 1 for 3 with two RBI for the Bulldogs (4-4). Alexander Aurrichio tripled and scored for the Lions (0-1).

 

Wofford 8, Albany 1

In Spartanburg, S.C., Matt Moore went 2 for 3 with three RBI as Wofford defeated Albany at King Field. Moore had a two-run single in a six-run third as the Terriers (4-4) built a 7-0 lead. Clark Wise drove in two for Wofford. Brandon Yarusi (1-0, 6 IP, 6 H, 4 BB, 9 K) earned the victory. Nolan Gaige went 3 for 4 with a run for the Great Danes (0-4).
