Fresno State junior second baseman Danny Muno was voted Preseason Player of the Year in the Western Athletic Conference. Fresno State sophomore Derek Benny was named Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Both awards and the Preseason All-WAC Team were voted on by the league’s head coaches and released by the conference office.

Muno batted .379 a season ago with 85 hits, 74 runs, 41 RBI and 25 doubles.

Benny was 4-4 with one save, 58 strikeouts and a 5.09 ERA in 2009.

Fresno State and Nevada each had four players on the Preseason All-WAC Team. Hawaii placed three on the squad.

The 48th year of WAC baseball begins on Friday, Feb. 19, with all seven teams in action. The WAC Tournament will be held May 26-29/30 at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz. The top six teams advance to the tournament.
