Eric Gutierrez (Mission, Texas)

Texas Tech junior first baseman

 

Gutierrez went 9 for 12 with three doubles, seven walks, seven runs and four RBI in reaching base safely in 16 of 19 plate appearances as the Red Raiders swept four games from San Francisco.

 

Jacob Robson (Windsor, Ontario)
Mississippi State sophomore outfielder

 

Robson reached base safely in 13 of 17 plate appearances (.765) by going 6 for 10 with five walks, two hit by pitch, eight runs and two RBI as the Bulldogs opened their season with four wins against Cincinnati (3) and Miami (Ohio) (1).
 

National Pitchers
Luke Gillingham (Coronado, Calif.)
Navy junior left-hander
 

Gillingham struck out the first 12 batters he faced against North Carolina A&T and finished with one hit, no walks and 16 strikeouts in seven innings.

 

Rayne Raven (Tacoma, Wash.)

Cal State Northridge junior right-hander

Raven tossed seven scoreless innings with four hits, two walks and 16 strikeouts in a dominating win over Utah Valley.

Chris King (Portsmouth, R.I.)
Elon senior catcher/designated hitter

King went 7 for 13 with three doubles, a homer and eight RBI in a sweep of Penn State. He tied a career-high with five RBI in Elon’s 16-15 win to open the season.

Taylor Clarke (

College of Charleston junior right-hander

Clarke allowed two hits and one run in six innings as the Cougars knocked off No. 12 South Carolina to open the season. After a shaky first, he allowed only two baserunners over his final five innings.

 

Southeast Player

Harrison Bader (Bronxville, N.Y.)

Florida junior outfielder

 

Bader went 7 for 12 with two doubles, three homers, five runs and 11 RBI – including a game in which he hit a pair of three-run homers – as Florida swept three games from Siena. Bader previously had hit three homers in 103 career games.

 

Southeast Pitcher
Kyle Funkhouser (Oak Forest, Ill.)
Louisville junior right-hander


Funkhouser yielded only one hit in seven innings and struck out 12 as Louisville slipped past Alabama State to open its season.

 

Central Player

Jeff Boehm (Lansing, Ill.)

UIC senior first baseman

 

Boehm went 8 for 13 with seven walks, a double, three homers and 13 RBI in four games against Mississippi Valley State (the fourth was halted in the fifth inning because of darkness).

 

Central Pitcher

Rob McDonnell (Barrington, Ill.)

Illinois senior left-hander

 

McDonnell allowed two hits, walked one and struck out 10 in seven scoreless innings against New Mexico State.

 

West Player

Chad De La Guerra (Santa Maria, Calif.)

Grand Canyon senior infielder

 

De La Guerra went 7 for 13 (.538) with three homers, seven runs and 12 RBI – including a 5-for-6 day with five runs and nine RBI against Bradley.

 

West Pitcher

Jake Shull (Tracy, Calif.)

Fresno State junior right-hander

 

Shull picked up two wins in relief over the weekend as the Bulldogs took three from UC Irvine. Shull tossed 3.2 scoreless innings with two hits and a strikeout.
