Larry Day has been brought in as an assistant at
Ohio to work with pitchers and catchers. He previously was a
volunteer assistant at Vanderbilt, assisting the catchers and
hitters. Day graduated from Connecticut in 2007 after being a
four-year starter with the Huskies.
Chris Gordon will join the ETSU staff as the
volunteer assistant. He spent the past five years as an
assistant at Milligan, in charge of.recruiting, coaching
pitchers and catchers, overseeing academics as well as strength
and conditioning. Gordon played at Milligan from 2003-07 and
earned a bachelor’s degree in history.
Hunter Vick has been hired as the volunteer
assistant at Auburn. He will assist head coach Sunny Golloway
with the infielders, as well as helping with camps, off-field
operations and on-campus recruiting. Vick helped Central Alabama
Community College capture the 2013 NJCAA National Championship
as an assistant. Prior to his two seasons at CACC, he spent two
years at East Central Community College
Former Texas Tech outfielder Roger Kieschnick had
hits in his first two Major League at-bats with two RBI in his
big league debut on July 31 for the San Francisco Giants at
Philadelphia. Kieschnick, 26, became the 26th Red Raider to
reach the Major Leagues.
The Houston Astros promoted former Tulane pitcher
Josh Zeid to their Major League roster. He will be the third
former Green Wave player to make his big league debut this
season, joining Josh Prince of the Milwaukee Brewers and Preston
Claiborne of the New York Yankees. Zeid was 4-1 with 13 saves in
43 appearances in Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Chad Bettis, former Texas Tech right-hander, has
been called up by the Colorado Rockies. Bettis, 24, was 3-4 in
12 starts for Double-A Tulsa.
J.C. Field has been promoted to associate head
coach at North Dakota and assistant Brian DeVillers has added
recruiting coordinator to his responsibilities. Field is
entering his sixth season at UND, serving as third base coach,
primary hitting coach and catching coach. DeVillers heads into
the seventh season at his alma mater. He is first base coach,
infield coach and helps with the hitters.
Fuller Smith, Zach Butler and Austin Flores have
joined the staff of Seth Thibodeauz at Nicholls State. Smith
spent the past three years at Ole Miss, two seasons as director
of operations and one as a volunteer assistant. Butler was an
assistant at McNeese State, his alma mater. He will assist with
the pitchers and serve as camp coordinator. Flores played for
the Colonels for two seasons and earned his bachelor’s degree
last fall.
