April 16-30, 2012
Coastal Carolina right-hander Josh Conway will
miss the rest of the 2012 campaign due to an elbow injury. The
junior pitched four innings on April 26 at Liberty before
exiting due to soreness. The preseason Big South Pitcher of the
Year, Conway was 4-1 in nine starts with a 2.14 ERA. He struck
out 50 and walked 18 in 54.2 innings.
Clemson right-handers Kevin Brady and Matt
Campbell were both injured on April 27 at Georgia Tech. Friday
starter Brady (1-2, 2.64, 11 G, 58 IP, 55 K, 22 BB, .227 OBA)
stained a hamstring covering first and will miss 2-4 weeks.
Reliever Campbell (1-2, 2 SV, 2.49, 13 G, 25.1 IP, 19 H, 11 BB,
29 K, .211 OBA) suffered a lat strain and is out indefinitely.
Tyler Sibley is now the career hits leader at
Texas State. He had a double and a single on April 21 to bring
his total to 261, passing the mark of 259 set a year ago by Bret
Atwood. Sibley holds the career marks at Texas State for
at-bats, hits, runs, total bases, doubles and steals. He could
add triples, walks and games played before the season is
complete.
Old Dominion senior Chris Baker hit a grand slam
in the top of the 12th on April 20 at George Mason in a 5-1
Monarch win. It was his third grand slam of the season, a school
record. Baker had slams on March 13 against VMI and on March 23
against Hofstra.
Georgia and Georgia Tech will meet on April 24 in
the annual Kaufmann Tire Spring Baseball Classic for Kids at
Turner Field. All proceeds will benefit Children’s Healthcare of
Atlanta. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be televised on
Fox Sports South.
