Duke sophomore Chris Marconcini will miss the 2012 season due to a torn ACL in his right knee, suffered during an intrasquad game. Marconcini was a Freshman All-American, batting .291 in 55 starts with 15 doubles, six triples, four homers, 41 runs and 39 RBI. He hit .383 with runners in scoring position.

Ground was recently broken for the Furman Baseball Complex, which represents Phase 1 of $3.5 million in facility enhancements at Latham Stadium. The complex will include coaches’ offices, locker rooms, player lounge, training and equipment rooms, and indoor batting and pitching cages. Construction should be completed by August, 2012. Phase 2 includes a new press box, concourse, concessions, restrooms and additional chair back seating.

Duke will have three captains for the 2012 season: senior outfielder Will Piwnica-Worms, junior right-hander Marcus Stroman and junior catcher Ryan Munger. Piwnica-Worms batted .264 a season ago with 15 doubles, 32 runs, 31 RBI and 21 steals in 23 attempts. Stroman, a preseason All-American, was 3-4 with a 2.80 ERA in 2011 and was second in the nation with 12.64 strikeouts per nine innings (90 K in 64.1 IP). Munger has started 27 times behind the plate in his first two seasons with the Blue Devils and has a .218 career batting average.

Bucknell elected seniors Alex Cillo, David Duffett and Ryan Ebner as captains. Cillo was Second Team All-Patriot League in 2011, going 4-1 with a 1.96 ERA in 46 innings of relief. Duffett is a two-year starter who hit .286 in 2011 with one homer and 19 RBI while playing at third base. Ebner was Patriot League Pitcher of the Year this past season, going 6-1 with a 3.53 ERA in 11 starts.
