Clemson
head coach Jack Leggett (left) has signed a new five-year
contract through the 2016 season. He has a record of 812-376-1
(.683) in 18 seasons with the Tigers. Clemson has reached the
NCAA Tournament 17 times under Leggett and advanced to the
College World Series six times.
Jamie Pinzino has been named pitching coach at
William and Mary. He will also serve as recruiting coordinator
for the Tribe. Pinzino was pitching coach at Northeastern this
past year. Pinzino was head coach at Bryant, guiding the
Bulldogs from Division II to Division I. He was conference coach
of the year twice. Pinzino graduated from Tufts with a history
degree in 1997 and earned a Master’s in educational studies from
Tufts. He was a four-year letter winner for the Jumbos. Pinzino
was an assistant at Tufts, Holy Cross and Pomona-Pitzer before
spending one year as head coach at Assumption in 2005.
Texas right-hander Taylor Jungmann was named the
2010-11 Big 12 Conference Male Athlete of the Year. Jungmann is
the first baseball player to win in the 15-year history of the
award (nine football, two basketball, two wrestlers, one
golfer). The winner of the 2011 Dick Howser Trophy, Jungmann
compiled 13 wins with a 1.60 ERA and 126 strikeouts.
Eastern Michigan will hold its annual golf outing
on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Eagle Crest Golf Club. Registration begins
at 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. EMU baseball will hold
an informal tailgate on Oct. 1 in the Rynearson Stadium parking
lot prior to the 1 p.m. football game with Akron.
Kyle Bunn has joined the ETSU staff as pitching
coach. Bunn, 32, was pitching coach at Alabama during the 2010
season and spent two years at Clemson and six seasons at Ole
Miss. Bunn was a three-year letter winner at The Citadel. He
helped the Bulldogs win consecutive Southern Conference titles
in 1998 and 1999. Bunn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
business administration with a minor in law & legal processes in
1999.
Ben Hall has been hired as an assistant coach at
Winthrop. Over the past four seasons, he was an assistant coach
and recruiting coordinator at Wingate. Hall worked with the
hitters and infielders while coordinating team travel and
academics. Hall played one year at Stetson and one year at
Daytona Beach Community College before finishing at Clemson. He
was a student assistant coach for the Tigers in 2007. Hall
earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Clemson in
2007 and a master’s of business administration from Wingate in
2009.
Travis Jewett has been promoted to associate head
coach at Arizona State. Jewett, who is also recruiting
coordinator, enters his third season with the Sun Devils. Before
his arrival in Tempe, Jewett spent five years at Washington
State as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Jewett
also coached at Washington and Gonzaga.
UCLA
right-hander Trevor Bauer (left) has signed a Major League
contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was the third overall
pick in the 2011 MLB Player Draft. Bauer will report to Single-A
Visalia. The CBI Pitcher of the Year and Golden Spikes Award
winner, Bauer was 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA this past season and led
the nation with a Pac-10 record 203 strikeouts. Bauer had 10
complete games in 16 starts, including each of his final nine
outings.
