VCU head coach Paul Keyes has received a
three-game suspension per NCAA rules for physical abuse of an
umpire. The rule includes any threat of physical intimidation or
harm to include pushing, shoving, bumping, kicking,
intentionally spitting, spewing, throwing at or attempting to
make physical contact. Keyes argued with home plate umpire Kevin
Causey on Saturday, April 30, in the Rams' game against Delaware
and was ejected. Keyes missed Sunday's game against the Blue
Hens and will miss Tuesday's game against No. 1 Virginia and
Wednesday's contest against Norfolk State, both home games at
The Diamond.
The Ivy League Championship Series is set for
this weekend, as Lou Gehrig Division winner Princeton (15-5,
21-20) will host Red Rolfe Division winner Dartmouth (14-6,
28-10) at Clarke Field. The teams will play a doubleheader on
Saturday, May 7, at noon. If necessary, the third game will be
on Sunday, May 8, at 1 p.m. The Big Green swept two games at
home from the Tigers earlier this season. Dartmouth has won the
past two Ivy titles. The Big Green won two of three at Columbia
a year ago and took two of three at home from Cornell in 2009.
The matchups are set for the Patriot League
Championship. The best-of-three semifinal series will have #4
Bucknell at #1 Navy and #3 Lafayette at #2 Army. The teams will
play doubleheaders on Saturday, May 14, and a single game on
Sunday, May 15, if necessary. The winners of the semifinal
series will meet May 21-22 in the best-of-three Championship
Series.
