Richmond freshman shortstop Mike Small suffered a leg injury on Wednesday, April 20 at Virginia and will require season-ending surgery. Small, the leader in assists in the Atlantic 10, was injured sliding into second in an attempt to break up a double play. The game was delayed nearly 30 minutes. Small will have surgery for a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in his right leg.

Senior lefty Drew Mahaffey of The Citadel has been lost for the season with a knee injury which will require surgery. He slipped and fell off the mound after a pitch in the fifth inning of the April 10 contest against College of Charleston and did not return. Mahaffey is sixth on the school’s all-time list with 19 career saves and 10th with 84 appearances.

The Southern Conference released a statement supporting the decision by the College of Charleston in suspending assistant coach Matt Heath an additional two games to his league-mandated one-game suspension after his ejection from Tuesday’s game against South Carolina. The SoCon will take no additional action.
