Ken Henderson, interim head coach at Southern
Illinois, has been suspended for three games by the Missouri
Valley Conference for bumping an umpire, per NCAA rules. The
encounter occurred in the 12th inning of Sunday’s 8-2 loss to
Illinois. Henderson will return for Saturday’s series finale
against Dallas Baptist.
Daniel Coulombe, a junior left-hander at Texas
Tech, will miss the rest of the season. An MRI revealed a torn
ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow and he will have
surgery next Tuesday. Coulombe is 0-2 with a 3.98 ERA. In four
starts, he walked seven and struck out a team-leading 28 in 20.1
innings.
Cal State Fullerton has suspended eight players
for its four-game series this weekend at Hawaii for a violation
of team rules. The players include RP Ryan Ackland, DH Carlos
Lopez, UT Walker Moore, SP Colin O’Connell, SS Richy Pedroza, C
Zach Tanida, 3B Joe Terry, UT Casey Watkins.
USC Upstate has added two games to its schedule
after having had a pair rained out. The Spartans will host ETSU
in a non-conference contest on April 12 at 6 p.m. and will
entertain Wofford on May 10 at 6 p.m.
