2013 Coaching Changes

Bearcats Dismiss Cleary

Cincinnati coach Brian Cleary (left) will coach his last game for the Bearcats today.

Cleary, Cincinnati’s coach the past 17 years, was informed Thursday that he has been dismissed as coach by director of athletics Whit Babcock. Cleary was allowed to coach the Bearcats (5-18, 23-32) this weekend against Notre Dame.

Cleary led the Bearcats to four straight Big East tournaments form 2008-11 and the 2011 campaign (30-27) marked the program’s sixth straight non-losing season. With a young team, Cincinnati fell to 18-38 in 2012 before struggling in the Big East this season – eight of the Bearcats’ league losses came by three or fewer runs. Entering his final game, Cleary had a record of 434-528-1 in 17 seasons.

In addition to coaching at Cincinnati, Cleary has served as an assistant coach for the British National Team in the World Baseball Classic (2009 and 2012) and the European Championships (2007).
