Thompson In, Then Out at High Point

Recently-named High Point head coach Butch Thompson has resigned to return to the SEC and become pitching coach at Mississippi State.

Thompson cited family reasons for his abrupt departure. Thompson is a native of Amory, Miss., not far from Starkville. His father, who lives in Starkville, is fighting a terminal illness.

For the past three seasons, Thompson was an assistant at Auburn. He will join the staff of John Cohen at MSU.

High Point will resume its search for a head coach.
