2012 Coaching Changes

Holbrook promoted to head coach at South Carolina

South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner promoted associate head coach Chad Holbrook to head coach.

For the past four seasons, Holbrook was associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Gamecocks. He was hitting instructor, oversaw the offense and coached third base. Holbrook helped South Carolina win consecutive national championships in 2010 and 2011 while finishing as national runner-up this past season.

Holbrook was named the 2011 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year. In the January 2011 issue of ESPN The Magazine, Holbrook was the No. 10 best recruiter in all of college sports. He was the only baseball coach on the list.

Prior to joining South Carolina, Holbrook spent 15 seasons on the coaching staff at North Carolina. During that time, the Tar Heels reached the NCAA Tournament 11 times. UNC went to the Super Regionals four times and had three appearances in the College World Series.

Holbrook played at North Carolina from 1990-93. He was second team All-ACC as a senior, when he batted .353. He earned a degree in physical education from UNC in 1994.

Holbrook and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons: Reece and Cooper.
