Lawler announces resignation

 

UALR head coach Jim Lawler recently announced that he will resign at the end of the 2008 season.

 

Lawler is in his third year at UALR. He has compiled a 56-89 record with the Trojans. UALR was 24-30 in 2006, 21-31 a year ago and 11-28 in 2008. The Trojans are in 10th place out of 11 teams in the Sun Belt Conference with a 5-14 league mark,

 

Previously the head coach at Gonzaga and Texas-El Paso, Lawler came to Little Rock after spending 21 seasons as top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M. Lawler was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Baseball America in 2003.

 

Lawler is the second Sun Belt coach to announce that he will step down at the conclusion of the season. Kevin Cooney of Florida Atlantic recently announced his retirement after 21 years with the Owls.
