Iwasaki Named Head Coach at Northern Colorado

Carl Iwasaki has been named head coach at his alma mater, Northern Colorado.

The head coach at Austin College for the past six years, Iwasaki was Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. The Kangaroos were 19-21 this past season.

Iwasaki was also an assistant coach at Austin College and at Saddleback Junior College. He was an assistant for five years with the Bakersfield Braves, a select baseball club. He also worked three years in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League.

Iwasaki played for the Bears from 1981-84. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Northern Colorado in 1985.

The Bears were 34-24 this past season. Northern Colorado finished second in the regular season and runner-up in the inaugural Great West Conference championship game.
