Texas takes over top spot in CBI Composite Poll

Arizona State falls to second, Virginia climbs to third, Georgia Tech is fourth

 

The Texas Longhorns used a 4-0 week to extend their win streak to 16 and rose to No. 1 in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

Texas is first in the Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and USA Today/ESPN polls and second in the Baseball America poll. The Longhorns beat UT Arlington on Tuesday before sweeping a three-game Big 12 series from Oklahoma State.

 

Arizona State fell from first to second after a 2-2 week. The Sun Devils are second in two polls and third in the other two. ASU lost to Arizona before taking two of three from Pac-10 rival Washington.

 

Virginia climbed one spot to No. 3. The Cavaliers are first in the Baseball America poll and are second, third and fifth in the other polls. UVa went 5-0 this past week, defeating Richmond and George Mason at home before sweeping a three-game ACC set at Maryland.

 

Georgia Tech slid one spot to fourth. The Yellow Jackets won twice against Georgia Southern before dropping two of three at home to ACC-rival Virginia Tech.

 

Coastal Carolina elevated four places to fifth. The Chanticleers won at UNC Wilmington before sweeping a three-game Big South set at VMI.

 

LSU was swept at Ole Miss this past weekend to fall eight places to No. 13.

 

Ole Miss, Connecticut and Stanford entered this week's poll, while Kansas State, California and Vanderbilt dropped out.
