Arizona State is unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Texas climbs to second, Georgia Tech is up to third, Virginia drops to fourth

The Arizona State Sun Devils avoided a loss this past week to remain No. 1 in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

Arizona State, under head coach Tim Esmay (left), is first in all four national polls. The Sun Devils swept a three-game Pac-10 series with USC to raise its record to 31-3.

Texas took a two-step jump to No. 2. The Longhorns are second in three polls and third in one. Texas topped Texas State on Tuesday before taking three from Big 12 rival Texas A&M.

Georgia Tech also climbed two spots to No. 3. The Yellow Jackets won at Georgia on Wednesday before sweeping an ACC series with No. 17 Clemson.

Virginia fell one place to fourth. The Cavaliers lost at VMI on Wednesday before taking two of three from in-state foe Virginia Tech.

LSU moved up one spot to No. 5. The Tigers topped Tulane before sweeping a three-game SEC set from Alabama.

Cal State Fullerton rose four places to No. 16, while UCLA and Oklahoma both dropped five spots.

Arizona, Kansas State, California and Vanderbilt entered this week's poll, while Oregon State, Clemson, Ole Miss and Western Kentucky dropped out.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Virginia is No. 2 in one poll, No. 1 in another.
