LSU continues to hold top spot in CBI Composite Poll

Virginia stays in second, Florida State remains in third, Texas is fourth

By sitting on top of three of the national polls, the LSU Tigers are No. 1 in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

The defending national champion, LSU is first in the Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and USA Today/ESPN polls and second in the Baseball America poll. The Tigers, led by head coach Paul Mainieri (right), defeated McNeese State in Baton Rouge and swept a three-game home series this past weekend with William and Mary.

The ACC holds down the next two spots. Virginia is first in the Baseball America poll and second in the CBI Composite Poll. The Cavaliers beat George Washington in Charlottesville and took three this past weekend from Rhode Island.

Florida State remains at No. 3. The Seminoles are third in two polls and sixth in the other two. The Seminoles swept a three-game set from Hofstra in Tallahassee.

Preseason No. 1 Texas climbs one spot to take fourth. The Longhorns topped Dallas Baptist and swept a three-game home series from No. 19 Stanford.

Arizona State swept a four-game home series from Towson to remain perfect at 7-0. The Sun Devils moved up three spots to No. 5.

Coastal Carolina rose the most in this week's poll, climbing from No. 17 to No. 9. The Chanticleers went 5-0 this past week, winning at Wake Forest, defeating James Madison and NC State and sweeping a doubleheader from No. 5 UC Irvine in Baseball at the Beach at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Anteaters dropped significantly after a 1-3 weekend at the beach, falling from fifth to No. 15.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Rice in No. 9 in one poll, unranked in another.
