UC Irvine Claims Top Spot in CBI Composite Poll

UNC is second, LSU climbs to third, Rice stays fourth, ASU falls to fifth

 

After putting together a 4-0 week, UC Irvine snapped its first-place tie with North Carolina to take sole possession of the top spot in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Anteaters (34-11) defeated USC and swept a three-game Big West series from Cal State Northridge. UCI is first in the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls, and second in the other two polls.

 

UNC (35-11) did not play this past week due to final exams and slipped to second. The Tar Heels are first in the NCBWA and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls, second in the Collegiate Baseball poll and fourth in the Baseball America poll.

 

LSU (36-13) defeated Tulane and took two of three in a SEC series at No. 8 Arkansas to rise two spots to third.

 

Rice (31-11) topped Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and won two of three Conference USA contests at Houston to stay No. 4.

 

Arizona State (33-11) beat Arizona and dropped two of three Pac-10 games at No. 24 Oregon State to fall two spots to fifth.

 

Florida (3-0) swept a three-game SEC series at No. 7 Georgia to sky-rocket nine spots to No. 11. Kansas State (4-0) got by North Dakota and took three Big 12 contests at Oklahoma State to jump five spots to No. 16.

 

Kansas (33-16) enters the poll this week at No. 25.
