LSU Back on Top in CBI Composite Poll

Rice rises to second, Georgia climbs to third, Arizona State drops to fourth

 

After going 3-1 in the past week, LSU has climbed back into the No. 1 spot in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Tigers (26-9) are first in three of the national polls (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA polls) and third in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. LSU defeated Grambling State on Wednesday before winning two of three over the weekend at Alabama.

 

Rice (25-8) defeated Sam Houston State and won at Lamar before taking two of three at East Carolina to move into a tie for first with the Pirates in Conference USA. The Owls jumped from fifth to second.

 

Georgia (29-6) split a doubleheader with Winthrop before sweeping a three-game set at Kentucky to jump one spot to No. 3. Arizona State lost twice at Arkansas before winning two of three against Washington State to fall from first to fourth. UC Irvine rebounded from a loss at UCLA to sweep a three-game Big West series with Long Beach State to rise from eighth to fifth

Coastal Carolina (29-7) enjoyed another 5-0 week with wins at Elon and at Wake Forest before a three-game sweep of Radford. The Chanticleers extended their win streak to 10 and climbed four more spots to No. 15.

 

Three teams climbed back into the poll: No. 20 Florida State (21-11), No. 21 Clemson (23-12) and No. 25 Kansas State (26-9).
