Cal State Fullerton Slips in at No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Georgia fall to second, LSU slides into third, Arizona State drops to fourth

 

After going 2-1 in its Big West opening series, Cal State Fullerton has slid past Georgia into the No. 1 spot in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Titans (18-4) are first in the Baseball America poll and second in the other three national polls. Fullerton lost 3-1 at UC Riverside on Friday before rebounding for a 4-1 win in 10 innings on Saturday and a decisive 18-1 victory on Sunday.

 

The Bulldogs (22-3) are first in three of the four national polls (Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls), but sixth in the Baseball America poll. Georgia went 3-1 this past week, losing at home to Wright State before a three-game SEC sweep at Tennessee.

 

LSU (21-6) defeated Harvard twice before taking two of three from Ole Miss to sneak into third. Arizona State (19-4) won two of three at USC and came in fourth. Georgia Tech lost to Georgia State before winning two of three at Miami (Fla.) to rise to fifth.

 

Arkansas (19-5) defeated Missouri State before taking two of three from Mississippi State to climb four spots to No. 9. East Carolina (20-5) jumped six places to No. 18, as did Florida (18-8) into No. 19.

 

New Mexico (24-4) makes its first appearance at No. 22, while Florida State returns to the poll at No. 25.
