Texas A&M rallies late to edge Rice

Schwarz hits four homers for UF, Lipscomb upsets Vanderbilt, TCU tops DBU

 

No. 2 Texas A&M 4, No. 14 Rice 3

In College Station, Texas, Texas A&M scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth to rally past Rice. Trailing 3-1, J.B. Moss hit a one-out homer to left and Logan Nottebrok (2 for 3) followed with a dinger to center as the Aggies (31-2) tied it at 3-3. In the eighth, Ronnie Gideon had a two-out RBI single to give Texas A&M a 4-3 advantage. Mark Ecker pitched a perfect ninth with a pair of strikeouts to record his fifth save. Ford Stainback went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for the Owls (22-13).

 

No. 10 Florida 22, Stetson 2

In Gainesville, Fla., JJ Schwarz went 5 for 6 with four homers and 10 RBI as Florida stomped Stetson. Schwarz set a program record with four home runs. Dalton Guthrie also homered twice for the Gators (25-9), who banged out 22 hits. UF scored in every at-bat, including five in the second and six in the eighth. Jack Machonis had two hits and a run for the Hatters (18-16).

 

Lipscomb 3, No. 1 Vanderbilt 1

In Nashville, Tenn., Brady Puckett allowed one run over 7.1 innings as Lipscomb upset Vanderbilt. Puckett (2-1) allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six. Nick Andros worked the final 1.1 innings with two punchouts to notch his first save. Josh Lee drove in all three runs for the Bisons (19-11). He had a sacrifice fly in the first, an RBI triple in the sixth and a run-scoring single in the eighth. Michael Gigliotti scored twice for Lipscomb. Zander Wiel went 2 for 3 with one RBI for the Commodores (27-7).

 

No. 4 TCU 6, No. 18 Dallas Baptist 2

In Fort Worth, Texas, Cody Jones had an RBI single to cap a five-run third as TCU topped Dallas Baptist. Jeremie Fagnan homered and drove in a pair for the Horned Frogs (25-6). Tyler Alexander (2-2, 8 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 5 K) earned the victory. Drew Turbin had two hits and a run for the Patriots (24-6).

 

No. 12 UC Santa Barbara 2, No. 7 USC 1

In Los Angeles, Domenic Mazza hurled seven scoreless innings as UC Santa Barbara edged USC. Mazza (4-0) scattered four hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Robby Nesovic worked around a hit in the ninth to record his third save. Peter Maris and Kyle Plantier had RBI singles in the sixth for the Gauchos (24-7). Bobby Stahel (2 for 4) singled and scored in the eighth for the Trojans (25-7).

 

No. 3 LSU 11, New Orleans 2

In Baton Rouge, La., Chris Sciambra went 3 for 4 with a double, a homer and four RBI as LSU took care of New Orleans. After going scoreless in the first, the Tigers (28-5) scored in each of their next seven at-bats. Kade Scivicque and Chris Chinea both had three hits and two RBI for LSU. Russell Reynolds (3-0, 3.2 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 K) picked up the win. Parker Jones had three hits and a run for the Privateers (11-21).

 

No. 9 Florida State 5, FGCU 0

In Tallahassee, Fla., Bryant Holtmann tossed eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts as Florida State blanked FGCU. Holtmann (5-1) allowed seven hits and two walks. DJ Stewart went 3 for 4 with one RBI for the Seminoles (26-8). He was a home run short of the cycle. Josh Delph also had three hits, two runs and one RBI for FSU. Brady Anderson went 3 for 3 for the Eagles (16-16-1).
