Taccolini pitches Arkansas past LSU

Harvard outscores Army, Cal State Northridge downs Dartmouth

 

Arkansas 5, No. 2 LSU 1

In Fayetteville, Ark., Dominic Taccolini allowed one run over six innings as Arkansas downed LSU to kick off their SEC series. Taccolini (4-2) scattered six hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Zach Jackson pitched three scoreless innings with one hit and four punchouts to record his first save. The Razorbacks (1-3, 11-9) scored single runs in the first two innings and added three in the fourth. Clark Eagan went 3 for 5 with two runs for Arkansas. Alex Bregman homered in the sixth for the Tigers (2-2, 19-3). Jared Poche' (5-1, 3.2 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, K) suffered his first loss for LSU.

 

Harvard 11, Army 8

In Tampa, Fla., Ethan Ferreira went 4 for 5 with three runs and four RBI to lead Harvard past Army. Ferreira was triple short of the cycle. After trailing 4-2, the Crimson (8-7) used a four-run third to take the lead for good. Jake McGuiggan went 3 for 4 with three runs and one RBI for Harvard. Kris Lindner was 4 for 5 with three runs and one RBI, while Mark McCants had three hits and two RBI for the Black Knights (9-6).

 

Cal State Northridge 6, Dartmouth 1

In Northridge, Calif., Chester Pak had a two-run homer to snap a 1-1 tie and spark a five-run eighth as Cal State Northridge downed Dartmouth. Pak went 3 for 4 with two runs. Calvin Copping (4-1) tossed a complete game for the Matadors (16-5) with 10 hits, one earned run, two walks and 11 strikeouts. Nick Ruppert had three hits and a run for the Big Green (1-8).

 

BYU 6, Gonzaga 5

In Spokane, Wash., Tanner Chauncey went 2 for 4 with two runs and one RBI to lead BYU past Gonzaga in the opener of their West Coast Conference series. The Cougars (3-1, 10-11) scored a pair in the top of the ninth to take a 6-1 lead before the Bulldogs (1-3, 10-11) rallied for four in the bottom of the ninth. Kolton Mahoney (2-2) allowed five hits and a run in seven innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory. Sam Brown and Cory Lebrun both had two hits and a run for Gonzaga.

 

New Mexico State 6, Hawaii 5

In Honolulu, New Mexico State scored two in the eighth and four in the ninth to rally past Hawaii. Cameron Haskins belted a two-run homer in the eighth to pull the Aggies (3-15-1) within two at 4-2. Michael Paulson had a two-run single in the ninth to tie the score and Dan Kennon added a two-run base hit later in the frame to give NMSU a 6-4 lead. Kaeo Aliviado had an RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth as the Rainbows (7-14) narrowed the deficit to one, but was stranded on third as the game ended.

 

Yale 8, UMass-Lowell 7 (10)

In Hartford, Conn., White drove in the go-ahead run and scored the eventual game-winner in the top of the 10th as Yale edged UMass-Lowell. Tom Ruddy drove in two, while Richard Slenker had three hits, including a double, and one RBI for the Bulldogs (6-4). Mason Kukowski (2-0, 3 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 2 K) earned the victory. Geoff DeGroot had three hits and two RBI for the River Hawks (3-9).

 

Central Connecticut 13, Marist 4

In New Britain, Conn., Dominic Severino drove in five as Central Connecticut scored nine over its final four at-bats to beat Marist. Ian Glassman went 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBI for the Blue Devils (5-5). Tyler Kirkpatrick knocked in a pair for the Red Foxes (1-10).

 

Nevada 11, Cincinnati 10

In Reno, Nevada, Trenton Brooks had three hits and four RBI, including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth, as Nevada rallied past Cincinnati. The Wolf Pack (18-4) trailed 7-1 in the middle of the eighth before Brooks delivered a two-run double to cap a five-run eighth and make it a 7-6 contest. RJ Thompson (3 for 5, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI) had a two-run triple and scored in the top of the ninth as the Bearcats (6-13) took a 10-6 advantage. Brooks had another two-run double to cap a five-run ninth as Nevada claimed the 11-10 victory. Kyle Hunt had two hits, two runs and three RBI for the Wolf Pack.

 

Northern Kentucky 4, Miami Hamilton 3

In Highland Heights, Ky., Northern Kentucky scored single runs in each of the final two innings to edge Miami Hamilton. Cody Kuzniczci scored on a wild pitch in the eighth for the Norse (5-13) to tie it at 3-3. Caleb Lonkard had a game-winning sacrifice fly in the ninth. Jarrod Hall went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for Miami (6-4).
