Super Regional Picks

The CBI staff makes its picks for this weekend's Super Regionals:

Baton Rouge

Sean: LSU rides hot pitching and bats. Tigers in two.

Phil: Tigers are top remaining seed and play like it. LSU in two.

Champaign

Sean: One of my two favorite SRs of the weekend. Lots of pitching. Lots of defense. Lots of fun. Vandy wins in three tight ones.

Phil: Illinois takes advantage of the home field and pulls out two close wins.

Charlottesville

Sean: Another good one between two similar teams. Virginia edged Maryland last year; Terps win first and third games this year to get revenge.

Phil: A pair of #3-seeds which played very well on the West Coast. The Cavaliers use their experience to pull out a tight Game 3.

Coral Gables

Sean: VCU pitching poses problems, but Miami bats prevail as Canes win in three.

Phil: VCU stays close, but the bats of the Hurricanes carry Miami in two.

Fayetteville

Sean: Missouri State has the arms – and will need them – in a back-and-forth, gritty weekend. Bears slip past in three.

Phil: Hogs enjoy bonus home weekend, pull out a tight win in Game 3.

Fort Worth

Sean: My other favorite SR of the weekend. Flip a coin. My coin comes up Frogs in three.

Phil: Aggies had three gut-wrenching games against Cal to advance, while TCU pulled out an improbable win against NC State. Texas A&M uses its Regional experience to advance in three.

Gainesville

Sean: Expect a lot of runs. Florida’s bats are potent and should be able to put up runs. FSU will answer. Gators in three.

Phil: Seminoles won two of three against the Gators, but Florida won the game in Gainesville. Gators survive in three.

Louisville

Sean: Fullerton will keep these games tight, but I like Louisville getting to Omaha for the third straight year despite losing a game.

Phil: Cards take care of Titans in two.
