Vandy Tops TCU,
Advances to Championship Series
In Omaha, Neb., Walker Buehler fanned eight in
6.2 innings as Vanderbilt defeated TCU 7-1 Friday evening in
the 2015 College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park to advance
to the CWS Championship Series.
The defending national champion Commodores
(50-19) will face the winner of Saturday’s Florida-Virginia in
the best-of-three Championship Series beginning on Monday at 7
p.m. CT.
Buehler (5-2) allowed four hits and a run with
one walk. John Kilichowski worked the final 2.1 innings with
one hit and two strikeouts to preserve the victory.
Vanderbilt scored in four of the first five
innings. Bryan Reynolds had an RBI single in the first to give
the Commodores the lead for good.
Reynolds and Jeren Kendall had run-scoring
singles in the third as the Vandy lead grew to 3-0. Rhett
Wiseman belted a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 5-0.
Will Toffey had an RBI single and Jason Delay added a
sacrifice fly in the fifth as the Commodores took a 7-0 lead.
Connor Wanhanen had a leadoff walk and scored
on a sacrifice fly by Derek Odell in the seventh as TCU
avoided the shutout.
Wiseman went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI,
while Reynolds was 3 for 4 with a run and two RBI.
